Wilco Contractors Northwest is committed to the health and safety of our staff, clients and the environment. With a need to support our projects located on our Yellowhead & Valley Line West (LRT) sites, we are searching for two Site Safety Advisor's who enjoy being in the field with the crews to to help us minimize the risk of job-related accidents and focused on keeping our staff safe and informed.
The primary goal for the Site Safety Advisor will be to work closely with operations to eliminate and or control hazardous activities. Your work will be focused on prevention so you need to be diligent and analytical. You will possess a keen eye for detail and a sensitivity for potential dangers. The goal is to support the ongoing creation of a healthy and safe workplace.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety program is aligned and complies with OHS regulations and applicable provincial legislative and regulatory laws.
- Implement the activities planned by the Health and Safety Department for the Project.
- Promote a positive safety culture and supportive work environment by being the “boots on the ground” for employees and contractors. Keep employees and contractors focused on safety through face-to-face conversations.
- Champion general site safety, inspect and provide safety assistance for duration of project/field job.
- Coordinate safety training programs for employees, including new hire orientation, job-specific training, and refresher courses.
- Train and mentor staff to ensure safety compliance.
- Development of SWPs, JSAs, ERPs, and Site-Specific Safety Plans.
- Support site leadership team to ensure the safe return to work for injured employees. Work with the safety team to support accommodation and modified work requirements.
- Complete necessary WCB paperwork related to worker injuries.
- Manage incident investigations, near miss reporting, and root cause analysis.
- Lead safety meetings and all associated communications with employees and clients.
Requirements
- Minimum National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO)
- 3-5 years safety experience in construction industry, preference in heavy equipment or heavy civil construction
- Site and/or project based experience an asset
- Knowledge of the OH&S Act, regulations and industry best practices
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving and listening skills
- Capable of developing and maintaining strong business relationships with internal and external customers
- Ability to represent the company in a professional and courteous manner
- Valid class 5 drivers license (minimum) with acceptable abstract
