Job Description Our member company is looking to hire a General Foreman , to join their team in Port Colbourne, ON. Reporting to the Project Manager, the Working General Foreman will be responsible to lead construction projects according to strict deadlines and within budget; embracing the role of being the company’s key on-site representative. They will work closely with the Project Management team. As a General Foreman, your role is to oversee the functions noted in bold below. A summary of responsibilities within each function are also outlined.

Safety

  • Ensure all safety requirements are followed and met, striving for zero safety incidents
  • Review Job Hazard Analysis’ completed by the appropriate Project Manager/Operations Support Specialist at the start of each project
  • Complete a worksite safety inspection on a weekly basis and submit for review
  • Assist JHSC reps and MOL inspectors during jobsite inspections
  • Abide by, and ensure all site personnel abide by the company’s H&S Manual, as well as the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Construction Projects
  • Report any jobsite injury and/or illness in an immediate manner to the Operation Support Specialist and Project Manager

Overall Management of Project

  • Manage overall day-to-day operations on the jobsite
  • Understand the project scope, budget and schedule
  • Identify short, mid and long-term resource requirements for the project and make proper arrangements to ensure they are available on a timely basis
  • Lead and coordinate all activities related to employees, subcontractors, client staff and suppliers
  • Appoint a Supervisor for any period in which you are stepping away from the project
  • Ensure the proper level of quality is maintained while also attaining the milestones and financial goals of the project
  • Record all project related activities within such items as the Supervisor Log Book and the Weekly Job Report
  • Submit accurately completely paperwork to Project Manager on a timely basis
  • Ensure all company-owned equipment and tools are signed out, available, in good working order, properly stored and finally signed back in

Communication

  • Detailed, on-going, timely communications with Project Management (before shift, at breaks, etc.)
  • Project related communication with the client, based on Project Manager’s instructions
  • Project related communications with subcontractors and suppliers
  • Communicate to site staff on an ongoing basis (site talks, disciplinary action, coaching and training, etc)

Leadership

  • Champion company procedures, policies and initiatives to improve operations
  • Assess employee performance and provide feedback to the Vice President of People and Culture
  • Participate in quarterly employee evaluations, providing timely and relevant feedback
  • Maintain any company provided vehicle in clean, properly serviced and presentable order

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of successful General Foreman experience within the construction industry
  • Strong technical background and aptitude
  • Willingness to continually develop self and others
  • An ability to effectively develop strong relationships with clients, fellow team members and suppliers
  • An ability to coach, mentor, motivate, direct and supervise team members
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency
  • Ability to work well individually and as part of a team
