What is the Opportunity:
The Estimator plays a critical role in securing projects and launching them. The individual will work directly with the General Manager on sales and with the project management team on awarded projects. The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate ICI cost estimates for new builds, additions and renovations in the $1 million to $10 million range.
What you will do here:
- Lead in the preparation of detailed and accurate budgets and cost estimates for ICI projects. Project methodology to include design build, fixed price and construction management.
- Review drawings, specifications and contract documents to comprehend opportunity and analyze risks.
- Develop scope of work outlines. Solicit and evaluate bids and quotes from subtrades and suppliers.
- Lead the project tendering process. Complete quantity take-offs for all labour, material, equipment, and sub-trade requirements.
- Work closely with the sales team on design-build proposals. Provide input on optimal materials and methods.
- Negotiate and prepare purchase orders and subtrade contract documents.
- Collaborate with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and trades to ensure project objectives are met.
- Participate in project analysis throughout all stages: planning, budgeting, procurement, and close-out
- Participate in project scheduling alongside Project Managers, utilizing Microsoft Project.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and conduct site visits and inspections to ensure full understanding of project opportunities.
- Maintain historical costing data and subtrades and supplier databases in order to maintain pricing accuracy.
- Monitor project posting sites for new opportunities and bring them to the General Manager for review and consideration.
- Ensure compliance with all health & safety regulations and internal safety policies
- Participate in project debriefs and lessons learned reviews for continuous improvement
- This position will report to the General Manager
What qualifications you bring to the Team:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in ICI (Industrial, Commercial, Institutional) construction
- Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field
- Leadership and organizational skills. Must be detailed oriented and work well with a team.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of Ontario Building Code, construction standards, safety regulations, and municipal standards.
- Proficiency in MS Office - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint. Experience with MS Dynamics 365 Business Central ERP job costing and AutoCAD software.
- Self-starter with a positive work ethic & able to see a task through to its conclusion.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
- Must be able to manage confidential material and information with discretion.
- Driver’s license and own vehicle.
