Job Description Are you looking to design a future where your technical skills flourish and innovation knows no bounds? We are currently expanding our Platforms team and have an opening for a Junior Mechanical Designer with Cable Design experience. In this role you will develop cable designs and cable routing for communications systems going into Military Vehicles.
As a junior team member, you’ll receive mentorship and guidance from experienced designers and engineers to help accelerate your growth. This position follows a Hybrid working model with a mix of home and on-site work. In this opportunity you'll dive headfirst into a world of technical innovation. As part of our team, you'll gain hands-on experience in state-of-the-art design tools, collaborate with industry experts and make an impact.
In this role you will:
- Provide conceptual and detailed cable and harness designs, drafting, and technical support for new and existing equipment.
- Develop preliminary and detailed Cable and Harness designs. Provides technical assistance to business groups.
- Support to Design Lead for all Cable and Harness Assemblies within General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada.
- Provides mechanical design, drafting and/or technical support to project groups for new and existing equipment (fixtures, cables, products, etc.) utilizing Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools.
- Create complex working-quality technical drawings for detailed assemblies in accordance with accepted industry drafting standards and symbology, working either from a detailed design 3D MCAD layout, verbal instruction, and production methods and processes.
- Create 3D parts or assemblies ranging in complexity, based on verbal, hand sketched, design layout instructions, production methods and processes, and produce detailed drawings in accordance with accepted industry and Company standards.
Qualifications
- Requires a three year College Diploma as a Mechanical Engineering Technologist or equivalent.
- Experience with 3D CAD software.
- Basic understanding of the principles of Electro-Magnetic Interference & Electro-Magnetic Pulse and how these environmental requirements are accommodated in Cable and Harness designs.
- Understanding of Design to Cost principles to ensure early establishment of realistic product cost objectives and then managing the key factors which influence design cost to meet the stated objectives.
- Understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly principles to produce cost effective, Cable and Harness designs which are optimized for manufacturing.
- Understanding of Materials properties (jacket fluid resistance and connector galvanic corrosion) and Manufacturing processes and the ability to select appropriate materials in developing cost effective, Cable and Harness designs.
- Very good working knowledge of MS Suite, including: Visio, Excel, MSWord, PowerPoint.
- Experience with a 3D computer aided design software, with an option for 3D cable and wiring harness routing.
It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance.
