Are you passionate about plant operations and looking to make an impact every day? In this role, you’ll support our Secondary Extraction team by ensuring safe, smooth, and reliable operations in your assigned area. Reporting to the Shift Team Lead, you’ll help us meet our production goals while upholding Suncor’s Conduct of Safe Operations (CoSO) standards 24/7.

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least one year of experience in plant operations; experience in heavy oil processing, sour gas processing, water treatment/power plants or refinery operations is preferred
  • Part A of 4th Class Power Engineering certification
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • A valid driver's licence and a clean driving record
  • A deep understanding and demonstration of safe work practices
  • Mechanical aptitude to allow the hands-on operation of plant equipment together with strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to make timely decisions associated with process upsets

Key Accountabilities:

  • Follow operating procedures to protect people, equipment, and the environment
  • Provide direction to maintenance and contract crews as needed
  • Perform plant operating duties and communicate shift changes clearly
  • Complete daily logs and report significant changes promptly
  • Conduct FLHAs and workplace observations to identify safety risks
  • Isolate equipment and issue safe work permits per standards
  • Report issues beyond your scope to your leader
  • Enter notifications, perform equipment checks, and monitor performance
  • Maintain housekeeping and support labour tasks in your area

Location and other Key Details:

  • You will work out of our Baseplant site in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • The shift schedule is a six days on/six days off rotation (three days on, three nights on, six days off; 12-hour shifts)
  • This position is safety sensitive
  • You will be required to perform some heavy lifting, use ladders and work on elevated work sites such as scaffolds and towers with the ability to perform in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces
  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory.
