The Department of Families is seeking a qualified individual to fill a Financial Worker position in Thompson, MB.

The EIA program is a program of last resort that provides financial and other assistance to eligible Manitobans who have no other means of supporting themselves or their families.

Duties:

The Financial Worker functions as a member of a case management team responsible for providing Employment and Income Assistance program services. Major activities include calculates financial need and issues benefits in accordance with the Employment and Income Assistance Act, regulations and policies. There is written and verbal communication with program participants and others in the public and private sectors.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Experience assessing and verifying information to determine eligibility to a program or for services

  • Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds (persons with disabilities, persons who are financially and/or socially disadvantaged, newcomers and/or different cultures)

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with the public, program participants, staff and/or external agencies

  • Strong organizational skills including ability to prioritize tasks, work under pressure with accuracy in an environment with competing demands

  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality

  • Experience interpreting, applying or explaining legislation, regulations or policies

  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook (or compatible programs)

  • Clear and concise English verbal communication skills

  • Effective English written communication skills

Desired:

  • Experience with disbursing funds according to program or policy guidelines
  • Knowledge of various community programs and social services
  • Knowledge of local community resources available to Northern Manitobans

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Search

  • Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check

  • Must provide and maintain a satisfactory Adult Abuse Registry Check

  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends and statutory holidays on occasion
