Location/Region: This position is located in Toronto.
What’s the role?
The Trainer is responsible for training, retraining, and assessing both new and existing lab technicians to ensure they meet production and quality standards. Working collaboratively with Lab Management and under minimal supervision, the Trainer follows established practices and written or verbal instructions to develop, implement, oversee, and adjust training programs. This role also supports global and regional Cut, Edge, and Fit operations training initiatives.

Here’s what you’ll do:
- Define and communicate lab-wide training goals to leadership and team members, with a specific focus on Cut, Edge and Fit (CEF) operations.
- Address quality concerns by collaborating with internal and external customers, particularly in areas relating to CEF processes.
- Develop and oversee training initiatives within operations, including the creation of necessary training materials.
- Plan, implement, monitor, and communicate the Training Schedule, setting clear expectations.
- Lead individual and group training sessions, including:
- Classroom Training: Covering work instructions and hands-on activities specific to CEF processes.
- Shop Floor Training: Demonstrating and supervising hands-on tasks related to CEF operations.
- Use reports to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, particularly in improving performance in CEF areas.
- Administer written exams post-training to understand retention.
- Benchmark results against like facilities in the network.
- Adapt training programs to align with learning patterns and performance goals.
- Conduct skill assessments for associates to evaluate proficiency.
- Maintain accurate training records for all associates.
- Oversee the skills certification process for associates.
- Plan and revise future training programs based on operational needs.
- Support management in reviewing, updating, and implementing work instructions, ensuring changes are incorporated into training plans.
- Keep the training area and personal workspace clean and organized.
- Participate in internal operator calibration and external self-calibration activities.
- Contribute to the CEF Training Network and drive continuous improvement of the training program and methodology.
- Adhere to safety standards and promptly report any safety concerns to leadership.
- Other duties as assigned.
Do you qualify?
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Previous experience in training roles; trainer certification is preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in the optical industry with a focus on optical edging, mounting, and inspection.
Skills and Competencies
- Language Skills: Fluent in English with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Optical Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of optical mounting, inspection processes, and equipment calibration.
- Teaching Skills: Familiarity with effective teaching methodologies, tools, and techniques.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Critical Thinking: Demonstrated critical thinking and decision-making capabilities.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
- Performance Management: Experience in monitoring and improving employee performance.
- Self-Motivation: Highly organized and self-driven, with the ability to take initiative.
- Adaptability: Flexible and capable of performing a variety of tasks.
- Work Environment: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking production environment.

- Mechanical Skills: Strong dexterity and mechanical aptitude.
- Manufacturing Experience: Prior experience in manufacturing operations is preferred.
