What We Are Looking For
Aird & Berlis LLP is looking for a Legal Assistant to support a share of Lawyers
in our Indigenous practice group, with a primary focus on Employment and Labour law. The ideal candidate should have strong time management, organizational and multi-tasking skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
The successful candidate should have the capacity to perform duties with speed
and accuracy with strong attention to detail. This is a good position for you if you are a self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills and a professional attitude.
Responsibilities

Assist with editing, formatting, and proof reading of various labour and employment and litigation documentation, letters, and routine correspondence

Track all critical due dates
-
Arrange meetings, discoveries and mediations
-
Communicate professionally with all internal and external clients, as well as with various court and tribunal offices and opposing counsel(s)

Assist with calendar management and scheduling of client meetings
-
Assisting with travel arrangements, including booking of accommodation and flights
-
Handle administrative details with respect to accounting, opening and closing files, docketing, billing, etc.

Accountable for all work assigned

Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Produce the highest quality of work

Requirements
- Minimum of five years’ experience as a Legal Assistant in Litigation and Employment law
- Successful completion of a post-secondary level legal assistant or paralegal program
- Previous experience with Caselines
- Familiarity with the Canada Labour Code
- Knowledge of various tribunals, courts and the Rules of Civil Procedure
- The ability to be flexible to the changing demands of the job
- Handle time pressure situations and stress of multiple demands
- Keep on top of lawyers and work without instructions, when appropriate

Compensation
The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $80,000 annually; the base pay
offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal and market equity.
