About the role:

The Principal Mining Engineer is a key position responsible for supporting the operational planning aspect in the business planning cycle, including leading scenario planning as well as technical governance within IAMGOLD. The role enhances operational performance through collaboration, best practices, and innovation.

Responsibilities:

Safety, Health, and Environment:

  • Ensure workplace health, safety, and environmental outcomes on a day-to-day basis is achieved.
  • Contribute to the Zero Carbon Emissions and Zero Harm goal by implementing initiatives and programs that promote a safe and sustainable work environment.

Business Planning Activities:

  • Coordinate IAMGOLD’s business planning cycle within the Integrated Planning Philosophy as well as lead the annual scenario planning exercise.
  • Ensure all deliverables identified in the annual timeline are met, including providing supporting documents and site support as required.
  • Highlight opportunities and risks in various business deliverables.
  • Support in-depth scenario analysis for each operational plan and develop tools to efficiently perform evaluations
  • Drive future growth and optimization studies, providing technical input to deliver high-quality strategic optimization plans, Life of Mine (LOM) plans, forecast updates, and the annual budget plan.

MRMR estimation, Mine Planning and Operational Excellence:

  • Support site teams for the MRMR exercise as well as audits (internal and external) related to the MRMR reporting and assist in the consolidation reporting requirements.
  • Develop and enforce internal policies, guidelines, and standard operating procedures for MRMR estimation
  • Lead IAMGOLD’s mine planning to industry best practices, including company-wide evaluation and implementation of scholastic mine planning tools.
  • Improve and standardize the mine planning process, workflows, and systems from strategic to tactical plans.
  • Mentor and lead workshops to guide site-based teams.

Subject Matter Expert in Mining Engineer:

  • Providing expert guidance on mine design, operational best practices, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Conducting technical reviews and audits to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Collaborating with management and technical teams to identify operational inefficiencies and recommend solutions.
  • Supporting feasibility studies, due diligence processes, and technical assessments for new projects or acquisitions.
  • Contributing to innovation initiatives, incorporating new mining technologies and methodologies.

QualificationsKey Skills & Knowledge:

  • At least 12 years of mining-related experience, including tactical and strategic mine planning experience as well as reserve estimation experience with QP reserve experience a plus.
  • Experience in a large-scale mining company and project management is considered an asset.
  • Extensive experience in both underground and open-pit mining environments, ideally within the gold mining sector.

Skills:

  • Strong ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary teams working on several deliverables in various locations, including management of consultants.
  • Proficient in all aspects of a mine plan at various study and operational stages.
  • Strong analytical skills and advanced computer proficiency, including planning & design software.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and French is considered a plus.
  • Proven leadership abilities and a collaborative approach to solving technical, operational, and business challenges.

Leadership Requirements:

  • Lead by example, demonstrating and promoting a positive safety culture throughout the organization.
  • Effectively navigate and lead through change, adapting plans and strategies as needed.
  • Display a strong ability to think innovatively and seek out global best practices.

May require travel to operational sites & projects (approximately 25-30% annually).
