About the role
SUMMARY
The Junior RCC Operating Technologist is an entry-level role within the Remote Command Centre (RCC), designed to introduce individuals to Smart Building and Building Automation Systems (BAS) operations in a structured and supervised environment. This position focuses on alarm monitoring, service request triage, work order management, and documentation, while building foundational knowledge of BAS platforms, HVAC concepts, and RCC workflows.
The role is intended as a developmental steppingstone into the RCC Operating Technologist I position.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
On-going Operations
Monitor BAS and connected building platforms for incoming alarms and system notifications in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Acknowledge, log, and triage alarms, identifying priority level and required response based on predefined response methodology.
Create, update, and close work orders within the work order management system, ensuring accurate notes and proper documentation.
Dispatch service requests and alarms to appropriate RCC resources, site teams, or vendors as directed.
Monitor system dashboards, device connectivity, and basic performance indicators, escalating abnormalities as required.
Maintain accurate logs and records of actions taken, observations, and escalations.
Learning & Development (Supervised)
Participate in structured onboarding and RCC training programs covering BAS fundamentals, RCC workflows, and escalation procedures.
Shadow Associate and RCC Operating Technologists during alarm investigations, trend reviews, and remote operations activities for learning purposes.
Develop a foundational understanding of HVAC systems, building comfort concepts, and asset hierarchies.
Attend internal training sessions, SOP reviews, and vendor-led platform demonstrations, as assigned.
Documentation & Compliance
Follow established RCC processes, procedures, and quality standards at all times.
Ensure all work completed is accurately documented within RCC tracking tools and systems.
Identify recurring alarms or issues and escalate to senior RCC staff for further investigation.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Basic computer proficiency and comfort working with technical systems and dashboards.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow documented procedures.
Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Willingness to learn BAS, HVAC concepts, and RCC operations.
Ability to work assigned shifts, including evenings, weekends, or holidays, as required.
Microsoft 365 Proficiency (Excel, Powerpoint, Word, etc)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Post-secondary education or coursework related to building systems, HVAC, controls, or technology.
Previous experience in a call centre, Network Operations Centre (NOC), Security Operations Centre (SOC), or helpdesk environment.
Exposure to facilities operations, automation systems, or technical support roles.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation
