This position requires working in the field based out of the Hanover, ON covering major network access points in Hanover, Goderich, Clinton, Markdale and Lions Head areas (3 designated work centers) as well as some travel when required to other areas.

Reporting to the Director of Operations- Ontario, Headend AST is responsible for assisting with the installation, maintenance and support of Eastlink’s residential customers access points to our networks proving Internet, video and phone over multiple platforms. The candidate will ensure the integrity of the network and the successful delivery of high value services to corporate and residential customers. This will include the installation, maintenance, auditing and modification of equipment and wiring both internal sites and out in the field; offering technical and logistical training and support to co-workers; coordinating contractors/ internal resources for installation cut overs and maintenance work; assisting with upgrades and troubleshooting as needed. Time management and effective launches are critical to Eastlink success in a competitive market.
Responsibilities:
- Work with Capacity Network Planning on evolving changes on CMTS’s across the region.
- including, RF Laser splits, Node Splits, combining splits and Frequency splits to Eastlink spec’s
- Cable wiring - structural cabling, cable management and ensuring quality of work (cable types but not limit to - mini cable, CATV, CAT5, powering cables
- Fibre management, Jumper wiring, muxes / de-muxes
- Assist on all new and existing VCMTS PON deployment fibering and powering, PON tree fibre routing of new and existing PON Nodes and share this knowledge with local teams
- Assist on all new and existing RMD node deployment, fibering and powering, ensuring a smooth cut over of existing customers and share this knowledge with local teams to trouble shoot.
- Respond to outside plant and headend problems in an on-call rotation.
- Manage remote sites (travel required) – DC Plant testing, fueling of generators and other facility requirements
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications:
- AST certification - 3-5 years of CATV environment or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of fiber optics and CATV equipment, RF analog/digital video equipment,
- Ability to work shifts, weekends and Holidays (on-call rotation).
- Ability to work on ladders.
- Computer Operations - understanding of operating systems (i.e. Windows, and all monitoring programs for network access & outside plant monitoring)
- Must have a valid license.
