This position reports to the Utility Plant Coordinator.

This position performs daily operational and maintenance functions at the water and wastewater treatment plants, reservoirs and raw water intake facilities.

Key duties will include:

• Maintain high quality of drinking water and acceptable treatment of wastewater as determined by daily testing to meet Alberta Environment Standards and license requirements.

• Operates and maintains treated water reservoirs, water treatment plant, wastewater treatment plant, pumping stations, and intake facilities.

• Performs preventative maintenance, repair, and housekeeping of plants, buildings, pump houses, reservoirs, and intake sites to a high standard.

• Assists in maintaining complete operational records including daily test results, online reporting entries, water consumption, effluent discharge, chemical usage, and energy consumption as required by licensing.

• Assists in maintaining adequate stocks of chemicals and operational supplies

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

• Must possess and maintain Alberta Environment Certification Level III for Water Treatment and Level II for Wastewater Treatment.

• This position requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience operating similar water and wastewater treatment facilities.

• Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

• Must be familiar with SCADA systems.

• Successful completion of NAIT’s Water and Wastewater Technician Program would be an asset.

Physical Demands and Work Conditions for this position include:

• Frequent lifting and carrying of materials, tools, hoses, test equipment, and parts up to 50 lbs.

• Repetitive physical movements, including turning valves, operating pumps and mechanical controls, shifting levers, and using hand and power tools.

• Climbing ladders, stairways, tank structures, equipment platforms, and accessing confined or elevated work areas as part of plant inspections and repairs.

• Working in both indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow), loud noise, wet or slippery surfaces, and varying temperatures.

• Ability to safely operate utility vehicles, service trucks, and small equipment as part of plant and system maintenance.

The Town of Whitecourt is committed to its employees and provides a competitive salary, benefits and pension plan. The wage range for this position is $42.62 to $47.95 per hour. The successful applicant will be required to pass a pre-employment medical and criminal record check, and provide a driver’s abstract, prior to being hired.
