Position Summary

The successful candidate will prepare, paint, decorate, and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures in Division schools and buildings.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • preparing painting surfaces by washing walls, repairing holes, or removing old paint

  • mixing, matching, and applying paints and other finishes to various surfaces

  • providing decorative and faux finishes as the project requires

  • completing planning and prep work in an efficient manner

  • preparing the surrounding area by covering with cloth or plastic to prevent messes

  • moving furniture and equipment as necessary to reach the entire surface of the project

  • calculating the amount of materials and time required for said project Removing fixtures such light switch covers and plug plates

  • taping off areas as needed cleaning up supplies and replacing fixtures when project is complete

Education/Qualifications

  • Alberta Journeyperson or Red Seal Painter certificate
  • will consider currently indentured apprentice painters
  • valid Alberta driver's license
  • experience working in a school or institutional environment

Skills and Abilities

  • must have the ability to: lift up to 25kg; climb ladders, work at heights, stand and walk for extended periods; perform work in awkward positions

  • must be able to undertake tasks requiring good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity

  • good problem solving, organizational, time management, and record keeping skills

  • excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • computer literacy ability to work independently or with a team

Rate of Pay

$40.14 per hour

Nature of Work

Closing

Hours of Work: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM; shift work may be required

The successful candidate:

  • must be able to distinguish colours
  • must be prepared to use personal vehicle to travel to Division schools and buildings
  • must provide trade related hand tools must satisfactorily complete required occupational health and safety courses supplied by the Division
