The is a unique role for an experienced systems engineer. In this exciting role, you will act as a fulcrum between Program Management, Product Management, and discipline engineers (both hardware and software) during the product development phase.
You will be writing requirements, defining test responsibilities for verification and validation, and navigating a team of interdisciplinary engineers through the technical aspects of product development, which includes technology integration, tradeoff analysis, and troubleshooting.
The ideal candidate will have an expertise in Fixed Industrial Scanning and Machine Vision, and will be a crucial part of the product development process from concept to market launch. The emphasis will be on developing, designing, evaluating, and/or modification of the solution to ensure it will be consistent with customer, industry, and regulatory requirements. Your contribution will ensure that the product at the sub-system and system level meets or exceeds performance targets, meets high quality standards, and maintains performance targets under manufacturing process variation at high volume.
This role is 3-days a week on site in our St. Laurent, Montreal office and 2 days remote. Responsibilities:
- Architects, designs, and supports developing, and testing of system solutions to several highly-complex technical projects. Creates system specifications for the projects. Leads technology roadmap process. Recommends project approach and goals
- Champions new thinking and creativity in team members to cultivate and retain top talent. Coaches others on how to effectively develop, communicate, and implement new solutions
- Prioritizes quality and seeks out improvements in all aspects of the projects
- Maintains keen awareness of competitor products and development direction to help direct designs to surpass the competition
- Uses status as a developer of novel and creative solutions to build business and bring positive attention to technologies and services
- With other engineering disciplines, develops next generation ideas and solutions to meet client needs before the competition
- Analyzes competitor intellectual property and participates in activities related to protecting intellectual property
- Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
- Creates formal networks involving coordination among groups
- Serves as organization spokesperson on specialized projects or programs
- Acts as prime consultant on large projects that affect the organization's long-term goals and objectives
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree
- Minimum 9+ years of work experience
- Experience with writing requirements
- Fluency in English and French
- Solid analytical and practical knowledge of systems spanning electrical, software/OS design, mechanical, optical and audio design components and an understanding of a product development process
- Experience developing a new hardware product, from concept phase to production and deployment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven track record of soft skills to lead by influence and drive decision-making with sound reasoning undergirded by quantifiable data highly preferred.
- Developing programs from concept to production and deployment highly preferred.
- Knowledge of camera technologies: optics, sensors, ISPs, & image-processing chains highly preferred.
- Prior experience designing camera systems (2D, 3D), including familiarity with optical requirements.
- Experience working in and/or designing products for Fixed Industrial Scanning and Machine Vision markets, such as high-speed sortation, human presented scanning, and scan tunnels.
- Recent experience as a System Engineer working on product development.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex concepts to broadly diverse audiences and guide both local and remote teams in achieving their goals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency and agility in dealing with ambiguity to stay focused and clear roadblocks.
- Experience leading interdisciplinary technical teams through a full product lifecycle.
- Solid analytical and practical knowledge of Fixed Industrial Scanning systems spanning electrical, software/OS design, and mechanical design components and an understanding of a product development process.
- Hands-on experience with machine vision, computer vision, or image processing including setting up cameras, lensing, lighting, filters, focal lengths, etc.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical and automation systems for manufacturing and/or logistics processes.
- Ability to read electrical schematics.
- Ability to work with Oscilloscopes, function generators, Bench Power Supplies, and Logic analyzers.
- Familiar with Agile Development practices.
- Familiar with network and Industrial protocols (PROFINET, EIP, TCP/IP, Modbus, etc.).
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
