Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) has an opening for a Lifeskills Literacy Instructor, based in Toronto. Reporting to the Manager, Training Services, the Lifeskills Literacy Instructor is responsible for providing instruction in language and essential skills training, to Deaf and hard of hearing adults in a learner-centred, goal directed, and strengths-based learning environment. This will include teaching classes on the communication, numeracy, and digital literacy skills needed to secure and maintain employment, further education, participate in training opportunities, and increase personal independence.

This is a permanent, full-time unionized position working Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Education or equivalent, as well as 2-3 years’ related work experience including developing and adapting lesson plans and related materials, combined with utilizing various teaching styles to match and meet student needs and learning styles. You are fully proficient utilizing MS Teams and Zoom to teach remotely and incorporate technology into in-person lessons.

You are fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and possess a strong understanding of Deaf culture. Equivalent certification such as the Deaf Practitioner’s Certificate through the S5 Dynamic Learning Initiative would be an asset. We are also looking for an enthusiastic individual who has superior time management and organizational skills and can work well under pressure to manage a varied workload with competing priorities and deadlines.

CHS requires you to be legally eligible for employment in Canada. Proof of legal ability to work in Canada will be required if a contingent offer of employment is made.
