About this opportunity

The Senior Business Development Manager, Broker Channel is responsible for developing the residential mortgage origination volume by identifying, engaging, and securing new relationships with key mortgage broker partners. They will lead advanced governance practices, and support the Broker business development team, and influence enhancements to our systems and processes.

The success of this role will directly contribute to the company’s sales targets and market position within the competitive mortgage lending landscape.

This is an outside sales role focused on building, nurturing, and expanding relationships with mortgage brokers and industry partners. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a “total can-do attitude”—someone who takes full ownership, thrives in a dynamic environment, and is passionate about driving results. Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with mortgage brokers, brokerages, and key industry partners.

As a Senior Business Development Manager, Broker Channel, this role is strategic and also serves as an expert point of escalation for complex deals, focused on sales effectiveness and process improvements, ensuring strong portfolio quality, partner experience excellence, and alignment with the organization’s strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Business Development & Growth

  • Identify, acquire, and growhigh‑value brokerand referral partner relationships that contribute significantly to regional results. -Achieve or exceed individual and regional sales targets(fundings, revenue, partner activation, portfolio mix).
  • Leverage advanced market insights to shape local sales strategy and territory growth plans.

High‑Value Broker Portfolio Management

  • Serve as the primary relationship owner for top‑tier / high‑value brokers.
  • Plan, schedule, and conduct in-person and virtual meetings, presentations, and events to promote company products and services.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for brokers in the region, ensuring consistent communication and support.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events.
  • Develop and execute a business development strategy to achieve funded volume and market share targets.
  • Identify and onboard new broker partners aligned with company goals and values.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (credit, operations, marketing, and product) to deliver exceptional broker experiences.
  • Gather and share market intelligence, competitive insights, and broker feedback to inform strategy and product development.
  • Deliver broker training and educational sessions to enhance product knowledge and engagement.
  • Demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset with accountability for regional performance.

Team Governance

  • Support the regional team by delivering additional governance oversight on deal quality, process adherence, and compliance expectations.
  • Lead targeted training for BDMs and partners on credit policy, submission quality, digital tools, and sales excellence.
  • Share best practices, portfolio insights, and market intelligence to elevate team performance.
  • Serve as a mentor and subject-matter expert for less experienced BDMs.

Deal Escalations & Complex Scenario Support

  • Act as the senior escalation point for complex or high‑risk deals.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, credit, operations, and leadership to drive timely, customer‑focused resolutions.
  • Provide scenario guidance to improve partner confidence and reduce rework or declines.

Enhancements and Support

  • Partner with product and technology teams to identify improvements to systems based on broker and field feedback.
  • Participate in user‑acceptance testing, workflow design discussions, and enhancement reviews.
  • Champion digital adoption and help the team maximize efficiency through system best practices.
  • Support leadership with reporting on growth trends, partner performance, escalations, and strategic opportunities.
  • Contribute to regional planning, resource allocation, and pipeline forecasting.
  • Represent the region in cross-functional initiatives, steering groups, or strategic projects.
  • Take initiative to identify opportunities, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Embody and promote the company’s culture of innovation, transparency, and collaboration.

Portfolio Quality & Risk Management

  • Monitor performance metrics across assigned partners and broader territory, identifying trends in deal quality and credit risk.

  • Guide partners and BDMs on improving approval rates, completeness rates, and funding efficiency.

  • Ensure alignment with risk appetite and compliance standards.

Education, Work Experience, and Professional Designations/Certifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary education program is required or equivalent experience. An undergraduate degree or community college degree in finance is preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience in mortgage lending, business development, or financial services.

  • 5+ years of experience and demonstrated success in managing high‑value mortgage brokers or large strategic accounts.

  • Proven track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets.

  • Ability to travel regularly within the region.

  • Familiarity with Loan origination systems (LOS) (preferably Trellis or similar) and digital process improvement.

This role represents an existing vacancy. Internal candidates are being considered as part of our standard process.

Salary Range: CAD**$79,100.00 to $118,700.00****annually.**

Compensation for this role is based on a combination of skills, experience, and internal equity. Candidates with stronger alignment to the role’s requirements may be placed higher within the range. Office Location: St. Catharines Corporate Office, located at Toronto Corporate Office located at 3280 Bloor St W, Etobicoke, ON.
