About the role

The Canada Segment Actuarial Shared Service Centre (ASSC) team is responsible for providing timely and accurate liability modeling services and analytics to Individual Insurance, Affinity and Group Benefits. These services include the execution, assembly, and initial analysis of all reserves, sensitivities, and capital calculations, as well as the maintenance of associated valuation models and procedures.

The Manager Projects and Reporting will be instrumental in driving the implementation of Manulife’s strategic initiatives and special projects within ASSC. As a key member of a dynamic team, the incumbent will be responsible for delivering quarterly reporting and supporting audits for Canada segment. You will also have oversight of SOX controls, ensuring its effectiveness and continuous improvement across the business units. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of product concepts, controls, and audit processes while collaborating with various lines of business in a supportive and growth-oriented environment.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support quarterly and annual financial reporting/disclosures of actuarial reserves.
  • Prepare SOX reporting, memos and ad hoc reporting requests.
  • Develop and manage business unit Audits, both Internal and External audit engagements (including SOX, LICAT).
  • Lead the execution of strategic initiatives and special projects by assessing their impact on ASSC processes, preparing detailed specifications, communicating requirements, and collaborating with various stakeholders.
  • Deliver advisory services to the ASSC by providing insights and recommendations on best practices and effective control measures.
  • Support the Reporting Steward with the coordination of quarterly change management cycle.
  • Participate in various meetings related to change management, production cycle, projects and audit.
  • Provide project management support in planning, scoping and delivery of initiatives.
  • Maintain strong business relationships with internal business and functional support areas.
  • Identify opportunities and leading or overseeing initiatives to improve processes.
  • Actively engage in prioritizing and advocating for enhancements to Technical Control Framework.
  • Use appropriate judgment in dealing with unexpected issues and requests, demonstrating an ability to prioritize work.

Required Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Math/Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Business Administration or related field with 4+ years of relevant experience in progressive finance roles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of IFRS 17 financial reporting requirements.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, particularly in the area of using sound, independent judgment, problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate, negotiate and influence effectively.
  • Results oriented, able to manage expectations, work under tight deadlines and manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, capable of communicating with senior management and external partners.
  • Knowledge of fundamental accounting concepts would be an asset.

Salary range is expected to be between

$80,700.00 CAD - $145,260.00 CAD
