Position Summary
The Medical Unit is seeking a Casual Ward Clerk to join their team.
Effective Date: March 23, 2026
Department/Unit/Program Description
The Medical Program Inpatient Unit is an acute care unit supported by a patient-centered multi-disciplinary team which respects patients' confidentiality, rights, and choices. All patients requiring medical care can be admitted to the medical program. The most common types of patients admitted to the unit are: acute coronary syndromes (heart attacks, angina), congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, and pneumonia.
Essential Qualifications
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of Medical Ward Clerk course or Medical Office Assistant Certificate
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Data Entry
- Minimum of 1 year clerical support experience
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and team building skills
- Demonstrated ability to deal effectively and courteously with all levels of hospital staff, patients and public
- Excellent professional telephone manner skills
- Demonstrated organizational, communication and time management skills
- Must be able to fulfill physical requirements of the job, as per current Physical Demands Analysis
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a hospital environment considered an asset
- Epic trained or ability to train and pass testing.
Hours of Work
Must be available to work a variety of 8 hour shifts, Monday to Sunday. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
