CAREER OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Manager in our British Columbia region. Reporting to the Operational Manager, the successful candidate will manage the overall operations of the BC Engineering team focused on delivering expertise on High Voltage, Medium Voltage, Industrial Power Systems, Generation and Automation projects, ensuring that we create superior client experiences and meet technical and operational standards. The Engineering Manager will be accountable for developing our relationships with Industrial & Generation clients (Oil & Gas Production, Refining, Pipelines, Manufacturing, Energy Production, and Pulp & Paper).
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Business Objectives:
- Work collaboratively with Senior Leadership to set objectives aligned with Magna’s overall goals for growth in expertise, services and volume
- Ensure the BC Engineering team meets and exceeds company objectives and goals
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of the annual operating budget
- Work with Operation Management to measure department performance as it relates to key performance indicators (revenue, margin, utilization, effectiveness)
- Promote a common understanding and commitment to department and project objectives
Sales:
- Develop, maintain and grow relationships with our clients and prospects ensuring increased revenue year over year
- Create and maintain an active prospecting strategy to attract new clients through, networking, marketing, and sales calls
- Identify, qualify, pursue and capture all opportunities in our CRM, with the objective of maximizing sales
- Be a persistent, persuasive and sound negotiator
- Solid assistance in the preparation, submission, tracking and closing of RFQ, RFP and quotes
- Update and maintain Business Development Strategy documents based on market conditions, client requirements, target project scopes and internal capabilities
- Actively gather and share relevant market intelligence with respect to general industry and competitor developments
- Attend industry trade shows and client events as required
Technical:

Oversee project management on all BC Engineering projects and do hands on technical work when required

Ensure the development and improvement of engineering processes, standards and design methods

Ensure that all project work is completed within required scope

Foster an environment that enables technical excellence, accuracy and timeliness

Build relationships and work collaboratively with all Magna teams to assist in implementing and executing Magna practices and processes
People Leadership:
- Manage the BC Engineering Department through strong people leadership skills and a drive for results
- Organize, motivate, and coordinate Engineering Team Members (including Project Managers, and Technical Specialists) who are responsible for project proposals, client management, project execution (of up to multi-million dollar projects), leadership and/or mentorship of junior/intermediate team members
- Determine department resource needs based on estimated workload forecasts and execute recruitment of appropriate talent with Human Resources
- Manage the performance of all Team Members through ongoing coaching, recognition, performance management, and compensation
- Identify and develop team members to ensure we meet the highest performance standards while developing team members within their current role and for future roles; to be a source of talent for Magna
- Support and implement employee engagement practices to ensure we can attract and retain the best talent
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Electrical Engineering Degree complemented by 10 years of proven experience in Electrical Engineering and Project Management (Industrial and Generation)
- A minimum of 5 years of People Management experience at a senior level
- P.Eng. licensed in British Columbia
- Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to engage and motivate a l team to achieve organizational goals
- Possesses a positive attitude, is highly self-motivated, energetic, passionate and reliable
- Goal orientated with dedication to exceptional client experiences
- Proven ability to proactively and effectively communicate with various cross functional stakeholders to achieve operational excellence
- Strong interpersonal skills that leverage your relationships to achieve success both through direct and indirect authority
- Experience in dealing effectively and quickly with change in a fast-paced and dynamic business environment
- Ability to multi-task, exercise good judgment and prioritize workload through outstanding organizational skills
- Ability to travel (15% of the time)
