The Great Bear project is a development-stage asset located in the renowned and prolific Red Lake mining district, and represents one of the most exciting recent gold discoveries globally. The project has excellent potential to become a top-tier deposit that could support a large, long-life mine complex. Kinross’ comprehensive exploration and development program will aim to support the vision of a quality, high-grade, open-pit mine and a longer-term, sizeable underground mine.
Job Summary The Procurement Lead will coordinate and optimize procurement activities for site construction activities and Red Lake office operations. The Procurement Lead will directly supervise, train Site Procurement Specialists and other procurement employees as assigned, as well as provide training to site and Red Lake office personnel to promote effective procurement process and compliance with Supply Chain Policy.
As necessary, the Procurement Lead will perform procurement activities including, but not limited to, the sourcing of equipment, services and materials to support the Great Bear Project, and activities working closely with site in Red Lake and corporate Stakeholders in the Toronto office to ensure materials and services meet all scope and technical specifications are delivered in a timely manner, and that spend is managed according to budget.
This role is located in Red Lake, Ontario, with occasional travel to Toronto. The Procurement Lead will report to the Contracts and Procurement Manager, Great Bear Project.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Provide daily supervision, direction, and training to the Site Procurement Team, including reviewing and assigning workload, reviewing and approving work produced by the Site Procurement Team, and support the team with any challenges or issues.
- Conduct sourcing analysis, market survey and contractor pre-qualifications including research and qualification or prospective suppliers by evaluating products, services, and performance according to business requirements.
- Lead procurement processes including RFIs/RFBQs/RFPs.
- Execute Purchase Orders and Agreements, change orders and other contract documentation, as required.
- Interface with local and regional vendors and suppliers to facilitate sound working relationships to promote responsiveness and timely delivery against contracts.
- Provide post-award commercial support in contract management, as required, including change management.
- Generate and maintain procurement status reports and various other reports to support project’s planned and awarded commitments.
- Conduct activities in accordance with the highest ethical standards and Kinross’ policies and procedures and reinforce procurement policies and processes with the team.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with the team and vendors.
- Identify procurement related risks and mitigations and escalate issues that require management support.
- Perform other duties to support sourcing activities as assigned and required.

Qualifications And Skill Requirements A University Degree in Supply Chain, Business or Finance, with a minimum of 10+ years of relevant work experience in procurement. Preferably in larger capital projects and/or operations such as ramp-up in mining, oil & gas, or other asset intensive heavy industry. Formal training, a professional designation or certification in related area is considered an asset.
- Excellent inter-personal and communication skills, with the ability to work in a cooperative and collaborative manner.
- Must demonstrate supervisory skills and ability to manage direct reports.
- Excellent prioritization and time management abilities and able to adhere to tight timelines.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and projects, and able to work under pressure.
This position is a 5X2 rotation, and is located in Red Lake, Ontario.
