Junior Health and Safety Instructor

Position Purpose

The Junior Health and Safety Instructor ((Course Design and Delivery Junior Instructor) will be part of a growing team at the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA). This role is key to delivering high-quality virtual instruction and supporting course development at ACSA. As a member of the Course Design and Delivery team, this position combines instructional responsibilities with administrative support. Through ACSA’s structured mentorship program, the junior instructor will build expertise in adult education and occupational health and safety while contributing to the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of ACSA’s training programs. This role is ideal for a motivated individual seeking to develop their instructional skills in a collaborative, learner-focused environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver and evaluate participant learning in a virtual instructor-led setting.
  • Moderate virtual classroom discussions, promoting inclusivity and an effective learning environment.
  • Support the development of learning materials through resources, engaging with subject matter experts, in alignment with adult learning principles, organization goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Assess, validate, and approve student assignments to ensure consistency and accuracy in certification processes.
  • In partnership with ACSA’s health and safety committee members, conduct evaluations and edits to ACSA’s health and safety program.
  • Provide operational support, cross-training on various tactics, and ensure continuity and coverage during vacation periods.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A suitable combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered.

  • Education:
    • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation.
    • Working to obtain a post-secondary degree, diploma, and/or certificate in adult education, occupational health and safety, or related field.
  • Experience:
    • 3+ years of experience in health and safety within a high-risk industry such as construction or oil & gas.
    • 1+ years of experience facilitating courses in-person and online.
    • Multimedia technology experience, such as Adobe Connect.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work independently as a strong and contributing member in a team environment.
  • Excellent customer satisfaction and communication skills are essential.
  • Technology proficient, capable of providing technical support as necessary.
  • Critical thinker with the ability to think on your feet.
  • Exhibits professionalism in representing Your ACSA and our commitment to delivering top-tier health and safety education.

Logistics

  • Daily work hours are 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.
  • Approximately 50% virtual classroom facilitation & 50% administration/project work.
  • This position will have the potential for a hybrid work model (ACSA facility, home office).
  • This position requires some travel and weekend work.
  • Reporting to the Manager of Course Design and Delivery and is under the direction of the Course Design and Delivery Team Lead.

Salary: $60,195+ depending on experience and qualifications
