With our food distribution program, we aim to provide food to those experiencing food insecurity throughout New Westminster and our neighbouring communities.
In this role, you will
As our Food Distribution Coordinator, you will lead, coordinate and oversee the daily operations of our food distribution program. You will source, inventory and distribute food to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. Through our food hamper program, you will provide food to over 500 people over a 10-day cycle. You also provide food to support various Purpose programs, including but not limited to our shelter, health contact centre, and family services. To manage this incredible work, you will manage a team comprised of staff and volunteers.
What You’ll Do

Coordinating and overseeing the scheduling of staff and volunteers.

Effectively managing these critical volunteer relationships with appreciation and recognition.

Supervising and leading volunteers, including coaching, motivating and guiding them in their duties.

Managing and safely running the day-to-day operations of the food distribution program, including putting together the food hampers, managing inventory, identifying needed supplies and determining distribution channels using first-in, first-out inventory practices to ensure food quality and minimize waste.

Sorting food donations to determine what food can be distributed and what needs to be discarded.

Coordinating and overseeing the food pick-up and deliveries with partner organizations and volunteer drivers.

Maintaining positive working relationships with community partners and agencies that donate food to our programs.

Ordering additional food and supplies as needed

Identifying opportunities to improve the client experience, optimize resources, and feed more people in the community.

Interacting with clients when providing food and resolving issues.
What We Are Looking For

Strong communication and leadership skills to interact and communicate with staff, volunteers, and community partners.

Ability to fluently communicate in English.

Well-developed organization and time management skills.
-
A working knowledge of food to identify what is and isn’t edible.

Previous management experience is an asset.
-
Previous volunteer management experience is an asset.
-
Being certified in food handling safety standards is an asset.

This position requires extensive walking, standing, and lifting boxes up to 40 lbs
