Water Technician - Student

West Kelowna

Overview

Are you interested in gaining hands on experience in water utilities? Are you an organized self-starter with strong communication and problem solving skills and enjoy working in a team environment? If so, our Development & Engineering Services Department wants you on their team!

As the successful candidate as the Water Technician Student, you will report to the Supervisor, Utilities Services and provide assistance to Certified Operators in various water distribution systems, water treatment systems, wastewater collection systems and the wastewater treatment plant.

Responsibilities

Performs field work as well as office/lab duties.

Assist with general operation and maintenance

Assist with general labour, site/yard maintenance and vessel cleaning.

Assist with required sampling, testing, monitoring and analysis of potable water supplies, wastewater influent and effluent, receiving waters and other environmental areas.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Training and Experience Required:

Currently enrolled and returning to an applicable post secondary educational program such as:

Engineering

Engineering Technology

Water Engineering Technology

Valid BC Driver’s License

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Demonstrated working skills in spreadsheet and database technology.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Organized self-starter.

Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Ability to work well in a team environment

Ability to traverse and work in difficult terrain.

Work Conditions

Physical Effort: Low to high physical effort.

Physical Environment: Office and field with exposure to all weather conditions and noxious odours.

Mental Stress: Multiple projects. May be required to work alone at times.

Sensory Attention: Must be aware of physical surroundings including safe work practices at an industrial plant.

Additional Information

This full time, student position will commence in May 2026 and conclude in August 2026. The work shift will be Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm; but weekend work may be required from time to time. We offer a wage of $24.26 per hour plus 4% in lieu of vacation. This posting will remain open until filled but applications will be reviewed towards the end of January 2026.
