GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE
We are looking for a team player committed to maintaining NVRC’s facilities in order to provide excellent experiences for our customers. You will primarily perform supervisory shop and field work in planning, organizing, and overseeing the work of a group of skilled trades and other subordinates engaged in facility maintenance related work in a wide variety of facilities. You are responsible for supervising and monitoring the work of assigned staff for scheduling and prioritizing the work to ensure efficient operation; and for ensuring a safe work environment and practices. The role also requires you to coordinate, schedule, and inspect contractors’ work for compliance with municipal standards, practices and contractual agreements. Considerable independent judgement is exercised within defined limits while difficult problems or policy matters are referred to a superior who reviews performance for effectiveness and efficiency of services provided.
ABOUT YOU
You are courteous and effective with customers. You have considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in building maintenance, servicing and repair work such as air conditioning equipment, boilers in commercial heating systems, building automation systems (BAS), direct digital control (DDC), computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), occupational health and safety standards, and proper safety practices as related to the work. You have the ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of a group of skilled, semi-skilled and other subordinates and provide advice and guidance; coordinate and oversee repair and maintenance projects; and inspect the work of contractors. You have excellent inspection and troubleshooting skills in identifying potential problems and making repairs or servicing as required. You have a sound knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, and tools associated with general trades work, and the ability to perform minor building maintenance tasks involving semi-skilled plumbing, carpentry and electrical. You have the ability to carry out a schedule of inspections, maintenance, and repairs related to a variety of stationary equipment. You have the ability to prepare and maintain records; requisition parts; organize inventory; prepare sketches; interpret plans, blueprints, drawings, and cost estimates; conduct incident investigations; and use computerized systems to access information, adjust controls, and maintain records. You are capable of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external contacts, coordinating work with others, providing advice, and resolving issues related to the work. You are effective in communication both verbally and in writing.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
You have completed Grade 12, supplemented by the completion of a recognized Trade Certificate of Qualification and technical courses related to the work, such as a 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate, plus considerable related experience, preferably in a supervisory capacity OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. You have a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence. You will be required to provide your own hand tools and be prepared to use your own vehicle when necessary. Mileage is reimbursed at the appropriate rates.
This is a regular full-time position involving shift work, entailing 37.5 hours per week. The pay range for this unionized position is $47.79 to $50.49 per hour plus a comprehensive benefits package.
All employees should be available to work at any North Vancouver Recreation & Culture location and are required to submit a Police Information Check as a requirement of the position prior to any appointment.
