Skills for Change is known for pioneering programs that respond to shifting immigration and workplace trends and lead to employment. We create skills development opportunities for immigrants and refugees to access and fully participate in the workplace and wider community. Our Agency has played a major role in uplifting immigrant and equity-seeking communities for 40 years. As one of the leading holistic service providers in our sector, Skills for Change offers more than 25 programs and services, and annually serves 16,000 people who are newcomers, immigrants, and equity-seeking groups in services around employment, integration, mental health, leadership, entrepreneurship, and more.

POSITION NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Supervisor, Grant Writing & Program Development will manage the day-to-day grant proposal writing responsibilities: being up to date on funding opportunities, coordinating with program teams and other departments to develop grant proposals, developing program budgets, and incorporating secondary research and data into grant proposals. This role is the go-to source for program- and project-specific funding proposals, heavily centered on collaboration, particularly in idea generation, building cost and staffing models, creating and maintaining materials for proposal writing, sourcing relevant research and data to inform grant proposals, and keeping an overarching view on program objectives and funding opportunities. The Supervisor, Grant Writing & Program Development may also take on key time-bound projects to support Skills for Change across work streams in collaboration with the Manager, Grant Writing & Administration, and/or the Director, Research & Program Design.
The ideal candidate has:
- Deep knowledge of the non-profit funding environment—its current challenges, opportunities, and trends—in Ontario and across Canada.
- Proven experience in written communication including editing and creating concise explanations of complex materials.
- Experience in ideating and developing programs from identifying needs and opportunities to concept creation and development to grant proposal submission.
- Excellent skills in managing multiple projects, budget development and planning, and meeting competing deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, particularly in written forms but also with presentations and public speaking
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Experience in identifying and developing innovative program proposals.
- Ability to work effectively with others at varying levels of an organization and to consistently display a high level of professionalism in all interactions including experience with maintaining confidentiality as needed.
- In-depth computer skills in Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with AI education/training and integration into workflows.
- Experience supervising small teams, including student interns.
- Experience in adult education and skills training/development.
Specific Accountabilities:
- In collaboration with the Manager, Grant Writing & Administration, lead the full development of grant proposals for all SfC programs and support with developing research project grant proposals.
- Develop related budget models and staffing plans that meet the needs of programs with an eye towards long-term sustainability.
- Steward relationships with community partners in the program design process.
- Support community engagement/consultation initiatives to inform program design and assessment.
- Coordinate and review/edit proposal input from a variety of stakeholders, typically involving contributions from program staff, finance, and partners.
- Write or support the creation of materials highlighting projects for internal and external audiences (may include PowerPoint presentations, short articles, fact sheets, white papers, etc.).
- Supervise all assigned staff, from scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work, to ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality and organizational performance, continuous learning and the delivery of effective case management, employment, and development initiatives.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Manager, Grant Writing & Administration and/or Director, Research & Program Design.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- At least three (3) years of experience working in non-profit, philanthropy or in government in a similar role is required.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field is required. A Master’s degree is considered an asset.
- Prior experience in grant writing and project management. A PMP certification will be an asset for this role.
- A clear vulnerable sector check.
