We are currently seeking a qualified individual to join our dynamic, forward-thinking team of Finance professionals in our Toronto office.
SENIOR FINANCIAL ANALYST - TORONTO
Reporting to the Manager Finance, the Senior Financial Analyst will assist with regulatory reporting and internal financial reporting. This position will be responsible for the preparation of reports supporting the annual and quarterly P&C-1 regulatory filing process. The Senior Financial analyst will also assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements and reconciliations.
Accountabilities include:
- Assist with preparation of the quarterly and annual P&C-1 filings and remain current on changes to the P&C-1.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the Company’s accounting system and general ledger, and process journal entries as required.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reporting and year-end audited financial statements, as well as any required quarterly reporting to the public parent company.
- Assist with reviewing quarterly reinsurance packages, reconciling amounts to the financial records and ensure payments are settled on time.
- Coordinate with external auditors to ensure an efficient and timely year-end audit and interim reviews.
- Work with internal auditors to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, as well as develop and implement additional controls as required.
- Collaborate with other Finance department staff to support overall department goals and objectives, while responding to inquiries regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
- Support the development and implementation of new procedures and features to ensure a proper workflow exists in the department and improve the accuracy and efficiency of processes.
- Provide training to junior staff as required.
Qualifications:
- 3 - 5 years in the financial reporting area
- Must have proficiency with Microsoft Excel, experience with extracting, manipulating, analyzing large data sets (e.g., use of Pivot tables, macros, and/or Index/Array-type/SUMIF formulas)
- Experience with NetSuite is an asset
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey technical information to a wide range of audiences
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, along with attention to detail
- Proven ability to exercise independent judgment
- Strong organizational, planning and project management skills, including the ability to meet strict deadlines and manage multiple priorities
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Commerce with an emphasis in Accounting preferred
- CPA required
