Omnitrans, a leader in Canadian logistics and transportation service provider, is seeking a Lead Software Developer to join our Information Technology team in Montreal.

We are seeking a Lead Software Developer to join our growing IT team and take a leadership role in building and maintaining the business-critical systems that power our customs brokerage and supply chain operations. This role combines hands-on development with technical leadership, giving you the opportunity to both design and implement scalable solutions while mentoring other developers.

In this role, you’ll drive the design and development of applications that manage large datasets across supply chain operations, customs clearance, invoicing, regulatory compliance, and classification processes. You will collaborate closely with our Business Systems Analyst, operations teams, and leadership to translate business requirements into high-performance, reliable systems that directly impact our business success.

The ideal candidate is a strong developer with proven experience leading projects or teams, designing software architectures, and optimizing data-heavy systems. You are comfortable working with large data sets, identifying trends, and building efficient, scalable systems. You bring a balance of technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and communication skills to guide the team while remaining hands-on in development.

What you’ll do:
Strategy & Planning

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of software applications supporting logistics, customs clearance, invoicing, and regulatory processes.
  • Provide technical leadership to a small team of developers, including code reviews, mentoring, and establishing best practices.
  • Collaborate with IT leadership and business stakeholders to define software architecture, standards, and development roadmaps.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable, efficient technical solutions.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, frameworks, and best practices; evaluate and recommend adoption where beneficial.

Software Development

  • Design, analyze, and modify applications and databases to support high-volume, data-intensive operations.
  • Develop, test, and deploy software using modern .NET frameworks, Python, SQL, and integration tools.
  • Build and optimize system integrations (APIs, XML, EDI, and other data exchange methods).
  • Ensure software is secure, reliable, and performant through robust testing and monitoring.
  • Work with large, complex data sets to identify trends and insights that drive better business decisions.
  • Oversee deployment, documentation, and end-user training for new or updated systems.

Collaboration & Support

  • Partner with Business Systems Analyst and operations teams to gather requirements and refine system functionality.
  • Support and troubleshoot production systems, ensuring minimal downtime in business-critical environments.
  • Foster a collaborative, continuous improvement culture within the development team.

Testing & Quality Assurance

  • Design and execute test plans that ensure systems are robust, accurate, and meet business and regulatory needs.
  • Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve issues in new and existing applications.
  • Administer critical analysis of test results and deliver solutions to identified problem areas.
  • Document development activities, design decisions, and testing outcomes for transparency and traceability.

Operational Management & Support

  • Liaise with IT team members and operations staff to resolve application or data-related issues.
  • Recommend, schedule, and implement software improvements and upgrades.
  • Provide Tier 2 technical support for software applications, including root cause analysis and fixes.
  • Develop and maintain user manuals and technical documentation.
  • Train end-users on new or modified systems as needed.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science/Software Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years’ software development experience (data-heavy/enterprise preferred) with at least 1–2 years in a technical leadership or senior developer role.
  • Knowledge of supply chain/logistics/customs systems is an asset.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor developers, conduct code reviews, and set development standards.
  • C#, .NET, Python, MS-SQL, Snowflake.
  • APIs, XML, EDI, system integrations.
  • Azure, unit/integration testing, data security/compliance.
  • Power BI & Power Automate.
  • Strong coding best practices & problem-solving.
  • Clear communicator (English, French an asset).
  • Adaptable, collaborative, and able to work independently.
