Role Description This is a short-term contract role for a Character Graphic Designer supporting a creative children books series project for Strategy Up and its client. The Character Graphic Designer will create and create visually compelling character designs in alignment with branding and storytelling objectives. Day-to-day responsibilities include conceptualizing and executing digital illustrations, leveraging typography and graphic design principles, and collaborating closely with the creative team to deliver high-quality visual assets.
Qualifications Proficiency in graphics and graphic design tools Expertise in character design, children's books, children book cover design, branding, and maintaining cohesive visual identities Strong knowledge of character design application and storytelling Strong creative and conceptual thinking abilities in visual design Ability to collaborate effectively in team settings College or Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field, or equivalent work experience Portfolio showcasing experience in character and branding design Fluency in English required Knowledge of Mandarin or Simplified Chinese is a plus Experience with AI tools (image and/or video generation) is a plus
Role details: Fixed-term contract: 3 months Part-time: approximately 20–25 hours per week Fully remote; candidates based in Halifax, NS may have occasional in-person meetings Flexible schedule: you work on your own time, within agreed deadlines All work produced under this contract will be the sole intellectual property of Strategy Up and/or its client; the work may not be displayed, shared, or included in portfolios without explicit written consent
Benefits: Invoices paid within 7 days from the approval of the deliverables Milestone-based payments (bi-weekly or monthly) Potential credit by name on the back cover of the book (not guaranteed, but negotiable based on rates and terms)
