Why we need you

You understand the value of clean runs, accurate records, and pay that lands on time, every time.

We're growing, and that growth increases headcount, complexity, and the need for strong payroll controls. We need a Payroll Administrator who can keep the cycle moving, keep employee records tight, and make sure day-to-day payroll is accurate, consistent, and audit-ready.

This role is for someone who enjoys ownership: reconciling what matters, spotting issues early, partnering with Finance and Operations to fix root causes, and helping the team maintain a reliable payroll engine.

Here's what you'll be doing

You'll be the backbone of our dealership payroll operations, executing full-cycle payroll across a diverse and growing workforce. You'll help keep our people paid correctly and on time, ensure accuracy day-to-day, and build the experience you need to grow into a senior payroll position over time.

  • Processing full-cycle payroll on a semi-monthly basis
  • Maintaining and updating employee personal and payroll records
  • Handling employee onboarding and terminations in payroll systems
  • Reconciling payroll data and assisting with payroll-related journal entries
  • Managing employee benefits setup and payroll deductions
  • Preparing payroll reports and supporting year-end processes, including T4s
  • Responding to employee payroll and HR-related queries in a timely and professional manner
  • Coordinating with HR and Accounting teams to ensure accurate and complete information flow

This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected. It is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities required by the incumbent. Incumbent may be asked to perform other duties as required.

You need these qualifications

  • You have 2–5 years of payroll experience
  • You have experience processing hourly and commission-based payroll
  • You're comfortable with payroll reconciliations and getting into the details
  • You're known for strong attention to detail and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • You have good organizational and time-management skills in a deadline-driven environment
  • You're a clear communicator with a collaborative working style
  • You bring a positive attitude, accountability, and a desire to grow professionally

It would be nice if you have

  • You have expertise in Reynolds & Reynolds
  • You hold a PCP designation, or are working towards it
  • You have strong Excel skills and experience supporting payroll-related reporting and compliance
  • You've been part of a team that's continuously improving controls, reporting, and compliance

About Downtown Autogroup

201-500

Downtown Autogroup (DAG) is a collection of 10 automobile sales and service facilities representing 12 of the most respected brands in the automotive world.

Founded by Shahin Alizadeh in the early 90's, DAG has grown from a single Toyota dealership to a group with over four-hundred employees. We pride ourselves on creating a positive work environment with competitive pay and benefits and opportunities for advancement. DAG has a bright future, and we’re looking for team members who share our vision. We know that being a great place to work also makes our dealerships a great place to shop.

In mid 2021, DAG will complete construction of the Autoplex, a mixed-use development with showrooms for 11 automotive brands, 900 residential condominium units, and other street-level retail shops at Queen Street East and the Don Valley Parkway. It’s the first development of its kind in North America, offering a better workplace for our team, a better shopping experience for our customers, and as a better streetscape for the city.

As a good neighbour in the heart of Toronto, it is also important that we also play a role in helping the community. Downtown AutoGroup currently supports a number of local initiatives, including the Women’s College Hospital’s Mobile Covid-19 Response Team.
