Program Staff– Part-Time – High School Programming

BGC Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton & Area is an organization that believes in the promise of all children. Our team works with community volunteers, partners and other supporters to create safe environments for children to be between school and home and to provide caring mentoring relationships for children and youth. Now, more than ever, the kids in our community need us and we are looking for great staff to join our team.

BGC Big Brothers Big Sisters is seeking individuals interested in the following position(s):

Competition Number: PSPT1025– Part-Time Program Staff

Positions: One

Status: Part-Time – 12 hours per week

Salary Range: $22.48 per hour

The key responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Providing academic support to youth ages 13-21 in a high school setting in the areas of Mathematics, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies.

  • Supporting youth in their transition from high school by providing resume writing assistance and post-secondary planning guidance.

  • Providing direct supervision, mentoring, and emotional support to youth to ensure the development of positive relationships and a safe, inclusive environment.

  • Building relationships with youth in order to understand their individual and collective needs, including academic, social, and emotional well-being. .

  • Supporting youth mental health and wellness through structured programming, one-on-one supports, counselling referrals, addictions prevention initiatives, and other activities that foster overall well-being.

  • Maintaining up-to date required documentation and completing other required reporting.

  • Following all safety and cleaning protocols set out by the school and the agency in order to safely run programming.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with youth and/or high school students.
  • Currently enrolled in or having completed a degree or diploma in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Education, or a related field.
  • A strong academic background as well as previous tutoring experience is an asset.
  • Coursework or training in mental health, addictions prevention, counselling skills, or trauma-informed practice is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated good communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Ability to manage time effectively while engaging youth in meaningful and results oriented activities.
  • An understanding of adolescent development and the ability to facilitate group and individual programming that promotes learning and well-being.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Both a Vulnerable Sector Police Check and a Child Intervention Record Check no more than 6 months old are conditions of hire.
  • Position is 12 hours per week Tuesday to Thursday during after school hours
