About the role

Job Description

What is the opportunity?

The Associate Director, TPR Practices is responsible for leading change management to develop/maintain strong RBC risk management practices for managing risks arising from Third Parties effectively and efficiently, in line with regulatory requirements - including end-to-end Enterprise Third Party Risk process, tools, applications, and external and internal data sources. The Associate Director will also ensure Third Party Risk practices are deployed consistently across the enterprise, to enable alignment to RBC’s third-party risk appetite and compliance to the TPR Policy. The Associate Director will work in close partnership across broader 2LOD and 1LOD teams, ensuring stakeholder engagement and adoption during the development, review and implementation cycle.

What will you do?

Act as a leader in Third-Party Risk (TPR) Management

  • Deliver on the TPRM vision and support advancement and adoption of TPR practices across the program.
  • Foster strong stakeholder relationships to enable active and collaborative working relationships.
  • Drive a culture of integrity and behaviors that align to RBC’s Code of Conduct and professional standards.
  • Work collaboratively across teams, enabling an engaged workforce who are effective, knowledgeable and adaptable.

Maintain and evolve Enterprise TPR Process and Practices

  • Support the change of RBC’s enterprise third-party risk process and practices across 1LOD and 2LOD representatives, including communications and socialization of changes, training sessions, creation of guides and maintenance of existing documentation, and publication of practices related materials in RBC Connect.
  • Lead the administration of change forum and engages with 1LOD and 2LOD representatives for the adoption of changes and improvement opportunities.
  • Grow RBC’s risk intelligence practices and external tools to ensure that TPRM capitalizes on all external and internal data assets, driving proactive and responsive risk management.
  • Support updates to third-party tools guides and integration to third party risk management practices;
  • Use data and indicators to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of practices, identifying opportunities for future enhancements.
  • Oversees the execution of 1LOD TPR training and processes.
  • Lead projects / complex initiatives, including plan creation and execution plan, track in detail and reporting for stakeholders.
  • Be aware/knowledgeable of Third Party Risk regulatory requirements, regulatory trends and industry best practices.

Ensure alignment of Enterprise TPR Process and Practices

  • Support the integration of business segments into our Enterprise TPRM policies, processes, and applications, including the migration of their portfolio into RBC's enterprise solution.
  • Ensure critical stakeholders are engaged and appropriate approval authorities are involved and sign off on new / updated practices and processes.
  • Work with TPR policy and reporting teams to ensure practices are well reflected in TPR Policy and standards and measured in a consistent manner.
  • Provide advice to 1LOD and other stakeholders in the development of playbooks/guides to enable compliance against TPR practices
  • Engage with TPR team members to ensure understanding of TPR practices and consistency across controls, providing support where required
  • Engage with other TPR stakeholders who support specific RBC’s TPRM practices, ensuring appropriate alignment with supporting requirements/expectations.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-haves

  • 7+ years of experience in progressively responsible roles in the financial services industry with direct exposure to operational risk management, the third party risk lifecycle, enterprise-wide mandates
  • Leadership experience in process design and process re-engineering
  • Established acumen in Governance-Risk-Compliance (GRC) through 1LOD or 2LOD roles
  • Strong understanding of the third-party risk governance framework and practices
  • Good knowledge of global TPR regulatory requirements/best practices
  • Change management acumen and direct experience in delivering risk management change initiatives
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset and delivery track record
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder and people management skills
  • Undergraduate degree

Nice-to-haves:

  • Graduate degree or equivalent experience (MBA, Master of Applied Science/Engineering, etc.);
  • Six Sigma certification; Professional Risk Management qualification or certification
