About the position
Duties
Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has responsibility to continuously monitor and report on natural hazards such as earthquakes and space weather events that occur in Canada and operates earthquake and space weather monitoring stations across Canada in this capacity. The mission contributes to the safety and security of Canadians and critical infrastructure operations.NRCan, through the Canadian Hazards Information Service (CHIS), is looking to support operation of space weather monitoring stations and is seeking a Head of Space Weather Networks.In this role you will undertake a variety of duties such as:
- Leading the operations, maintenance, and development of national space weather and geomagnetic monitoring networks, aligning activities with departmental and divisional priorities.
- Overseeing the deployment of new systems in Canada and internationally, including remote and Arctic regions.
- Managing human, financial, and technical resources; directing scientific and technical staff; overseeing contractors; and exercising delegated authorities.
- Coordinating partnerships with industry, government, and academia.
Intent of the process
The immediate need is to staff one (1) full-time indeterminate position in Ottawa, ON.A pool of (fully or partially qualified) candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions within Natural Resources Canada with various tenures, language requirements/ profile(s), security requirements, conditions of employment and for various locations.

- Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position.

Experience:

Experience in managing scientific or technical human resources *.

Experience in the planning and accounting (managing) for financial resources** allocated to projects.

Experience in providing technical advice, recommendations, writing and presenting briefing material to senior management (Director level and above).

Experience in providing and receiving information in area of expertise to internal, external clients and stakeholders.

Applicants must clearly demonstrate that they have human resources management experience - defined as: having supervised staff, assigned work, managed and assessed performance and development.
** Applicants must demonstrate evidence of financial management experience - defined as: managing and being accountable for a budget.
