Area Fleet Director- Western Canada
About the role
GFL Environmental is looking for a strategic and experienced Area Fleet Director to lead fleet operations across Western Canada. In this pivotal role, you’ll ensure our fleet runs safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively while supporting our mission of making communities cleaner, safer, and greener.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee fleet strategy, equipment selection, and lifecycle management to maximize efficiency and sustainability.
- Drive operational excellence by setting and monitoring standards for maintenance, productivity, fuel, and safety.
- Ensure full compliance with environmental, transportation, and safety regulations.
- Lead and support maintenance facilities, staff training, vendor relationships, and warranty recovery programs.
- Partner with regional and corporate leadership to provide fleet analytics, performance reporting, and cost comparisons that inform business decisions.
- Champion a safety-first, continuous-improvement culture across all operations.
Requirements:
- Post-secondary degree in business, operations, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of leadership experience in fleet management or maintenance (waste industry experience a strong asset).
- Strong knowledge of electronic maintenance tracking systems and MS Office tools.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage vendor relationships, and drive cost-savings.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present to both front-line staff and senior executives.
- Willingness to travel across the region.
