Supplier Quality Engineer

Iridian Spectral Technologies is a high-tech company based in Ottawa, Canada that is a world-leading supplier of optical thin film filters used in telecommunications, satellites, astronomy and 3D cinema. Established in 1998, Iridian has a staff of more than 150 people, and is part of IDEX Materials Science Solutions.

The company currently has a vacancy in its Quality Group for a Supplier Quality Engineer. The focus of the position is to improve manufacturing efficiency by strengthening our supplier management procedures (including incoming inspection, supplier feedback and supplier audits) and by working with suppliers to resolve issues that arise.

Job Duties include:

• Manage projects to resolve supplier issues and improve supplier quality, and act as a significant technical contributor to those projects.
• Key role in managing and organizing yearly audits to maintain ISO9001 certification
• Qualify new suppliers for new products and as second sources for existing suppliers
• Continuously improve processes and procedures for incoming inspection, supplier evaluation and supplier feedback.
• Participate in NPI, determining incoming inspection requirements and first article procedures for new materials.
• Perform remote and on-site supplier audits and monitor improvement plans.
• Create and track SCARs.
• As a key member of the Quality team, contribute to continuous improvement of all aspects of the quality system.
• As a primary interface with suppliers around the world, occasional meetings at odd hours and travel will be expected.
• Any other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

• 5 years experience successfully resolving challenging technical problems with suppliers.
• Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering.
• Good understanding of quality systems and supply chain management.
• Fluency with probability, methods and statistics of sampling.
• Demonstrated strong analytical ability and technical judgment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
• The ability to prioritize tasks in a busy work environment, be customer-focused and detail oriented.
• Quality Assurance Certification (CQE, CQM) and/or Lean Six Sigma considered an asset.
