JOB SUMMARY:
The Supervisor, Generation Operations Chaudière Falls is responsible for the day-to-day operations of all generating equipment and powerhouse facilities, including all dams, headworks and associated support systems, and for ensuring that all safety rules, regulations and standards are followed, and oversees a team of powerhouse operators, maintenance operators and laborers ensuring operational efficiency, and implementing processes to meet organizational goals.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead, mentor and supervise a team of employees to oversee the operation of the Chaudière Dam and its generating facilities operations, including implementation of safety standards and Standard Operating Procedures
- Support the development and implementation of annual Operations Plan for all renewable generating facilities
- Maintain outage and availability databases related to all renewable generating facilities
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement
- Oversee the execution of the day-to-day responsibilities, watershed management programs and plans, including dam operations as required and in conjunction with other stakeholders within the Ottawa river watershed
- Maintain ongoing awareness of Ottawa River levels and flow projections
- Ensure a clear understanding of day-to-day operations, job requirements and risks and assist in developing and implementing risk management plans
- Ensure strict adherence to all occupational health and safety standards and other applicable laws and regulations.
- Ensure appropriate training is provided to all employees and participate in employee performance management programs
- Supervise responses to emergency calls including participating in the management‐on‐call roster, interfacing with all utilities that may be affected;
- Ensure improved efficiency, effectiveness, productivity, quality, accuracy and safety by recommending new or improved work methods and techniques
- Maintain working tools and equipment in sound operational condition, and prepare work orders for repairs and recovery costs, as well as keeping records of contractor work and billings
- Act as company representative on the joint Health and Safety committee
- Maintain a regular work routine with shift workers; establishing assignments, clarifying requirements and expectations, receiving status updates and providing guidance in problem situations
- Identify immediate operating needs and in accordance with Company policies and procedures, arrange duty hours with employees and prepare posted schedules for staff coverage of the 24/7 operations
- Receive crew reports and maintain documentation of operations, work assignments and progress respecting the established current Chaudière Dam Work Plan
- Participate in management on-call program and duties
- Perform other related duties as required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Post-secondary education in a relevant technical field
- 5 years’ experience in the field of renewable energy including oversight of operations and maintenance considered an asset
- Experience with managing, monitoring and administering contracts and contractors
- Knowledge of powerhouses, power generation, large electrical utility systems, building systems, including civil, electrical and mechanical equipment
- Experience interpreting plans, specifications and other technical documents
- Experienced in dam operations considered an asset
- English language skills essential, both oral and written; Bilingual (French/English) or other languages considered an asset
- Strong computer skills, proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably G Suite
- Previous supervisory experience considered an asset
- Experienced in dam operations considered an asset
- Driver’s license – Class G
This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
