About the Opportunity

The Health Care Social Worker reports to the Program Manager and as a member of a multi‑disciplinary team, provides a diverse range of interventions to clients and their families enabling them to achieve their optimal level of functioning and health. These interventions include psychosocial assessments, adjustment therapy, supportive therapy, crisis counseling, resource counseling, discharge planning and case management. The Health Care Social Worker is actively involved in advocacy, education, program planning, consultation and collaboration on behalf of individuals/groups within the institution and community. The role is multifaceted and dynamic requiring the Health Care Social Worker to work autonomously as well as collaboratively.

This position works within the Halifax Infirmary Emergency Department.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work from a recognized university
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the NSCSW
  • Two (2) years of clinical experience as a clinical Social Worker required
  • Knowledge of Trauma‑informed practice an asset
  • Strong counselling and communication skills
  • Capacity to achieve a high degree of autonomous practice
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team context
  • Knowledge of abortion care and options counselling an asset
  • Knowledge of issues related to family violence, sexual abuse, addictions, grief and loss, end of life, disability, crisis intervention, caregiving and continuum of care and intervention skills that come from knowledge of theoretical frameworks/approaches to practice
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Minimum two (2) years of experience required. If not available, candidates with less than two (2) years of experience may be considered for the selection process. If offered employment, they will be placed on the Health Care Social Worker (Developmental) scale.

Hours

  • Part Time Long Assignment; 60 hours bi‑weekly
  • Approximate End Date Feb 27, 2027; Dates are subject to change
  • Shifts are 8 hours over a 7 day per week schedule, including weekend & holidays.

Compensation and Benefits

$40.18 - $54.14 Hourly

Developmental (less than 2 yrs experience) $35.83 - $46.37
