Director of Sales
Location: Ottawa, Canada (on-site)
Reports to: President
About RBR: Making waves since 1973
At RBR, we’ve been designing cutting-edge instruments to measure our blue planet for over 50 years. Built to withstand some of the harshest environments on Earth, our instruments are deployed from the ocean’s deepest trenches to the polar ice caps, capturing essential data on water temperature, salinity, pH, and more. This data empowers researchers in the global fight against climate change, and our technology supports groundbreaking science with partners like Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Woods Hole, the Scripps Institution, and the British Antarctic Survey.
At RBR, we care deeply about our work, each other, the environment, and the global communities we serve. We value teamwork, continuous improvement, and having fun along the way. From Friday lunches to social events, we’re a crew that thrives on taking on complex and exciting challenges that have a meaningful impact on the blue planet! Ready to make waves with us? Apply below!
About the role
We’re looking for a Director of Sales who shares our curiosity about the natural world and excitement for technology. This is not just about hitting targets; it’s about connecting with researchers, agencies, and industry partners who rely on the data our instruments provide, and ensuring RBR is their first choice.
What you’ll do
- Lead and mentor a global sales crew, setting clear goals, and inspire high performance
- Build strong, lasting relationships in academic, government, and industrial markets
- Spot opportunities in new markets, from polar science to renewable energy, and find impactful ways to bring RBR’s instruments into those projects
- Keep a close eye on the numbers: forecast pipelines, monitor performance, and share clear updates with the senior leadership team
- Guide contract discussions to create agreements that share in our customers’ success, and align with RBR’s long-term commitments
- Partner closely with engineering, product, and operations so that customer feedback directly shapes what we build next
- Frequently travel to customer labs, attend conferences, and visit coastal sites supporting customers who are working to understand and protect our planet
What you bring
- A track record of leading high-performing sales teams in science, technology, or hardware industries - experience with oceanography, environmental science, or precision instruments would be a bonus
- Curiosity about the natural world and enthusiasm for innovative technology
- A natural communicator who can explain technical ideas clearly and connect with audiences ranging from graduate students to senior government officials
- Integrity, drive, and the ability to build lasting, successful partnerships that help our customers achieve their goals.
Why you’ll love working at RBR
Your work here goes far beyond sales targets. Every conversation you have, every partnership you build, helps advance global climate science and exploration. Along the way, you’ll:
- 🌐 Make a global impact – Connect with leading researchers and organizations working on today’s most pressing challenges
- 🎯 Lead with purpose – Guide a passionate, talented team while shaping RBR’s international growth story
- ✈️ Travel & connect – Visit research labs, conferences, and coastal sites supporting customers who are working to understand and protect our planet
- 🤝 Join a supportive crew – Collaborate daily with brilliant engineers, product experts, and operations teams who are as committed as you are
You’ll also enjoy:
- 🌴 20 days of vacation, plus a company-wide holiday shutdown and paid sick days
- 🩺 Benefits from day 1 & RRSP contribution matching
- 💰 Bonus program
- 🏋🏽 Annual fitness reimbursement program
- 🚴 Greener commuting incentive program (bike-to-work, carpool, or transit passes)
- 🚗 EV reimbursement program + on-site charging stations
- 💝 Charitable donation matching
- 🌮 Monthly Friday lunches (on us)!
At RBR, we celebrate and support diversity in our workplace. As an equal-opportunity employer, we welcome people from all backgrounds and aim to find the most talented person for each role. Accommodations are available upon request at every stage of the selection process.
