Prototyping & Mechanical Design Engineer
Top Benefits
About the role
We are a high-caliber team building the sensing and AI infrastructure for autonomous biomanufacturing: real-time electrochemical biosensors, closed-loop AI process control, and our bioreactor platform. We work alongside major technology partners in the sensing, computing, and industrial automation space. This is not a large-company role. We hire people who personally do the work at the highest level.
Role Summary
You will personally build the physical prototypes of our sensor housings, fluidics, and related hardware. This is a hands-on design-and-build role, not a design-oversight role.
Key Responsibilities
Design mechanical components and assemblies using CAD tools. Personally build and iterate physical prototypes using machining, 3D printing, and other fabrication methods. Test prototypes for fit, function, and durability, and iterate based on results. Select materials appropriate to bioprocessing environments (e.g., biocompatibility, sterilization compatibility, chemical resistance). Support integration of sensors and electronics into mechanical housings and assemblies. Collaborate with the electrochemistry and electronics teams to balance form and function tradeoffs. Maintain clear design files and documentation of build and iteration processes. Support the transition from prototype to a manufacturable design.
Requirements
BSc or MEng in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Hands-on prototyping experience, including CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360), machining, and 3D printing. Experience designing for manufacturability. Comfortable working hands-on in a shop or lab environment on a day-to-day basis. Strong iterative problem-solving skills and a bias toward building and testing quickly.
Nice to Have
Experience with fluidics or bioprocessing hardware. Experience designing hardware for regulated or medical device environments. Experience designing for hazardous location or biosafety requirements.
We offer
Full-time employment Competitive salary Comprehensive Benefits package RRSP match A dynamic and engaging work environment Career development opportunities
Accepting applicants from Canada and United States. Full time/Part time work arrangements may be available based on company needs.
