As an Emergency Clerk you will frequently be the first point of contact when patients and families arrive and move through the department. You will provide service in a patient and family-focused manner. You will facilitate the delivery of patient care, within your scope, by providing a high level of support and assistance to staff and patients/families. You will also support the operation of the department by providing clerical and administrative functions in a proactive and organized manner.
The Emergency Department is a unique fast paced and dynamic environment, but at the very core we strive to always provide the very best experience for our patients and families.
Here's What You'll Get To Do
- Act as a liaison between patients/families and the Emergency Department staff.
- Assist patient/families, within your scope.
- Schedule and coordinate patient care with providers and services across the Hospital.
- Maintain patient charts, as well as electronic and paper patient information.
- Coordinate unit administrative functions to ensure efficient operation of the unit, within scope of authority.
- Answer unit phones.
- Page providers and services within the hospital.
- Prepare requisitions.
- Provide clerical support to all health care staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Coordinate patient transfer within the Hospital, as well as to tertiary care facilities across the GTHA.
- Register families as they enter the Emergency Department.
Essential Requirements Here's What You'll Need
- Previous clerical experience.
- Basic proficiency with computers (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365).
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organization skills.
- Excellent telephone communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem solving abilities.
- Focus on teamwork is a must.
- Ability to be self-directed, to be flexible and to take initiative.
- Attention to detail and efficient time management.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity and inclusion objectives.
Assets
- Diploma from a recognized Medical Administration program.
- Medical Terminology certificate.
- Epic training and patient registration experience are assets.
Employment Type
- 0.6 FTE, part-time with benefits
- Shifts include night, evening, weekend, statutory holidays, and varying shift lengths
