What you’ll do

Generation Engineering has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer to join our team at BC Hydro’s Edmonds office in Burnaby, BC. As an experienced Professional Engineer with expertise in Protection and Control (P&C) design, you will:

* Lead detailed design of electrical generation protection and control systems as Professional of Record (POR), Project Engineer, or Owner’s Engineer, including: electrical protection, generator/turbine control and monitoring, communication networks, water conveyance and spillway control systems, and safety instrumented systems.

* Support Mandatory Reliability Standards (MRS) compliance activities, including NERC CIP.

* Manage work packages across a range of projects, including: work coordination, planning and scheduling, resource management, specification writing, capital cost estimation, technical direction, and support during installation and commissioning of P&C equipment.

* Develop innovative design solutions for complex challenges, including legacy system upgrades and integration of modern automation technologies.

* Review work by project teams, consultants, and contractors to ensure accuracy, quality, and adherence to engineering standards.

* Mentor junior engineers and support their professional development.

* Contribute to the development and review of internal engineering standards.

* Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to align priorities, assess impacts, and resolve issues.

What you bring

* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a Canadian-recognized university.

* 8+ years of relevant engineering experience, including 5+ years in hydroelectric or thermal generation systems. * Registered Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), or eligible for immediate registration.

* Strong technical writing, presentation, and communication skills.

* Excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities.

* Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

* Proven ability to manage multiple projects and resources.

* Experience preparing technical specifications, evaluating tenders, and making award recommendations.

Preferred Expertise:

* Governor and exciter specification and integration design

* Protection systems for generation station equipment (electrical and non-electrical)

* Automation control hardware/software using Schneider PLCs and HMIs

* Functional Safety Systems

* MRS compliance, including NERC CIP

* Electrical system modeling and analysis tools (e.g., frequency response analysis, time-domain simulation, root locus, bode plots, load flow, short circuit)
