Tissue is a business unit of Domtar. As one of the few fully integrated tissue manufacturers in North America, we have a well-established presence in retail and away-from-home tissue manufacturing and are ideally suited to serve U.S. customers. We own and operate three manufacturing mills, in Sanford and Hialeah, Florida, and Calhoun, Tennessee, as well as a converting facility in Hagerstown, Maryland.
With seven converting lines and two paper machine production lines –for paper towels and bath tissue – the Hialeah Mill is a 24/7 operation and is seeking talent to fill the position of Maintenance Manager.
Job Purpose The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading the maintenance function at Domtar’s Hialeah Tissue Mill, which operates two tissue machines and multiple converting lines. This role ensures operational reliability, reduces equipment downtime, and drives continuous improvement by implementing effective maintenance strategies. The Maintenance Manager will oversee maintenance planning, safety compliance, budget control, and the development of the maintenance team to support manufacturing performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and supervise the maintenance team to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable mill operations.
- Plan, organize, and oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for tissue machines, converting lines, utilities, and supporting equipment.
- Collaborate with operations, engineering, and safety teams to minimize downtime and optimize production reliability.
- Manage maintenance budgets, cost control, spare parts inventory, and vendor relationships.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Drive root cause analysis, reliability improvements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for equipment reliability, downtime, and maintenance effectiveness.
- Support capital projects, equipment upgrades, and mill expansion initiatives.
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and teamwork within the maintenance organization.
- Will take on call in rotation with existing team.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive maintenance experience in the pulp and paper industry (tissue manufacturing strongly preferred).
- Engineering Degree in electrical or mechanical fields can be considered for some experience.
- Knowledge of package boilers i.e. Cleaver Brooks CB model boilers
- Proven leadership experience managing maintenance teams in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and process systems common to paper mill operations.
- Expertise in preventive and predictive maintenance systems, reliability-centered maintenance, and CMMS software.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, contractors, and capital projects.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to workplace safety, employee development, and continuous improvement.
- Bi-lingual (Spanish) will be beneficial
