Specific Accountabilities:

Assists program faculty in menu preparation and the daily supervision of kitchen operations by assigning duties to the kitchen staff according to established standards.

Ensures proper handling and delivery of food, oversees food quality/quantity production, recipe costing and portion control; maintains sanitation standards and cleaning methods by following established methods.

Demonstrates practical/basic cooking methods, baking and culinary techniques of food handling to kitchen staff and students.

Estimates/requisitions food supplies and equipment including the control of inventory by checking stock rotation and maintains a working knowledge of supplies on hand.

Ensures that the work area and equipment are in good repair and that adequate supplies/equipment are available following established procedures and standards.

Provides direction to kitchen staff and students as directed by program faculty.

Works various shifts as assigned.

Performs other related duties.
About the Position:
This is a regular part-time support staff Bargaining Unit position reporting to the Associate VP Student Success working 9 hours per week at an hourly rate of $24.43. This is a less than 12 month role; with the months of July & August off annually.
The successful candidate will support program faculty in a full food service operation. Demonstrates procedures to students in the culinary program as determined by the faculty. Establishes/implements food production and kitchen sanitation procedures including the requisition of food supplies and equipment.
Qualifications:
- Secondary school diploma with red seal certification or equivalent is required at the point of hire into this position
- Up to eighteen months of related, progressive work experience
- Relevant work related training and/or demonstrated work experience in an institutional or hotel/restaurant setting where there is a high volume of food prepared/consumed
- Experience in cooking methods and techniques, volume cooking, cost control, dietary and food service standards/ procedures, kitchen management and applicable health and safety standards/practices
- Practical aspects of food production within industry guidelines
