**Location -**This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton.

The Lead, Clinical Excellence & Quality Improvement advances clinical excellence and quality improvement across academic teaching clinics, supporting data-informed improvement and collaboration across sites.

The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of the world’s top academic health science centres. With 21 departments, multiple research institutes and centres, and a focus on excellence in education, research, and clinical care, the faculty trains outstanding medical and dental professionals and drives global health innovation in collaboration with partners across sectors.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Advancing clinical excellence within academic teaching clinics
  • Supporting clinic-based quality improvement initiatives
  • Improving understanding and use of clinical performance data
  • Strengthening collaboration and knowledge sharing across teaching sites

Governance & Coordination Roles

  • Regular coordination meetings with the academic Clinical Services (ACS) Manager and Site Quality Coordinators
  • Member, Clinical Academic Committee (CAC) Review Committee

Examples of Work

  • Quality improvement initiatives across teaching clinics
  • Interpretation and use of clinical performance data
  • Sharing best practices across sites
  • Supporting improvement initiatives with clinic teams
  • This role works closely with the ACS Manager, who supports operational implementation and coordination

Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD)
  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence in family medicine within an academic or teaching clinic environment
  • Experience leading or supporting quality improvement (QI) initiatives, including implementation and evaluation
  • Ability to interpret and apply clinical performance data to drive meaningful improvements in care
  • Proven experience engaging physicians, learners, and interdisciplinary teams in practice change and improvement efforts
  • Strong collaboration skills, with experience working across teams or multiple sites
  • Experience contributing to committees or governance structures, with the ability to provide clinical insight
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal training in quality improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, PDSA cycles)
  • Experience using EMRs and/or clinical dashboards to support performance measurement
  • Familiarity with academic program structures and the integration of clinical care and teaching
  • Experience spreading and scaling initiatives across multiple clinical sites
  • Prior involvement in regional or provincial quality, clinical, or academic committees
