About the role

We believe conversations will become the #1 way to shop. At Gorgias, we’re building the platform that makes this real: a unified AI agent that sells, supports, and re-engages customers across the entire journey. Conversational Commerce is the future of ecommerce, and we’re leading that shift.

Our mission is to turn every interaction between a brand and its customers into a relationship: personal, seamless, and intelligent. By combining deep product expertise with the latest in AI, we’re making shopping feel more natural, human, and connected than ever before.

To win, we focus relentlessly on:

  • Quality: conversations that feel authentic and on-brand.
  • Experience: effortless shopping from chat to checkout.
  • Re-engagement: personal, 1-1 dialogue instead of noisy marketing.

The opportunity is massive. As AI reshapes how people buy, Gorgias is building the foundation for the next decade of ecommerce, where every brand has its own intelligent agent and every customer feels understood.

Join us to make Conversational Commerce real.

About The Decision Intelligence Team The mission of the Decision Intelligence team is to shape decision-making into a competitive advantage across Gorgias. We build and power our central data and context asset, called the Gorgias Decision Engine (GDE), and bring it to life through decision products and partnerships. The GDE is Gorgias' central system of infrastructure, data, context, decision products, and AI capabilities that enables the organization to access insights, automate workflows, and make better and more meaningful decisions.

Decision Intelligence operates across multiple disciplines: Data and AI Engineering (infrastructure, context layer, AI agents), Analytics (business intelligence, metrics governance), and Data Science (forward-looking insights, including forecasting). Each discipline plays a key role in achieving our mission.

  • Our engineering team builds decision infrastructure, context strategy, and scales AI capabilities.
  • Our analytics team activates value from the GDE through partnerships and strategic insights.
  • Our data science function supports statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and advanced experimentation.

We're looking for a Senior Data Scientist to build and own the data science discipline within Decision Intelligence. This is a foundational hire, helping define what data science means at Gorgias and scaling that vision from the ground up.

What You'll Do You will be the senior data scientist on Decision Intelligence, reporting to the VP of Decision Intelligence. This is not a role where you inherit a playbook. Instead, you will work closely with the VP and our Senior Manager of Data Analytics to build our data science strategy and vision while partnering with stakeholders to implement value as the lead IC.

You will work directly with stakeholders (at all levels, including C-Suite) across Finance, GTM, and Product to deliver outcomes through modeling, experimentation, and recommendations, while identifying the patterns worth scaling into repeatable models and integrations within the Gorgias Decision Engine.

  • Partner with the VP of Decision Intelligence to define and evolve the data science strategy and roadmap across Gorgias
  • Own model improvement to our forecasting for Finance, including revenue forecasting, churn prediction, and scenario planning
  • Mature audience segmentation and customer profiling for GTM, enabling more targeted and effective go-to-market motions
  • Support retention and expansion intelligence, including improving churn risk models, identifying expansion opportunities, and evaluating the effectiveness of CS programs
  • Contribute to pricing and monetization strategy through price sensitivity modeling, upgrade opportunity identification, and predictive pricing experiments
  • Develop and scale experimentation frameworks and A/B testing methodologies, including defining key events and success metrics
  • Work with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver actionable insights, forecasts, and strategic recommendations that drive actions in near real time
  • Inherit and improve existing predictive models (fit score, intent score, churn risk, forecasting) through regular refreshes, stronger features, and updated signals
  • Identify high-value, repeatable patterns and partner with the Data Engineering team to productionalize them as models within the Gorgias Decision Engine

Who You Are

  • You have 5+ years of hands-on experience in data science or a related quantitative field, with strong proficiency in Python and SQL
  • You have deep experience with statistical modeling, forecasting, segmentation, and experimentation design
  • You are a strong IC who is hungry to grow by building something from the ground up. You see this as an opportunity to define your career trajectory by establishing and scaling a function, not just filling a role
  • You move fast and ship iteratively - comfortable with ambiguity and energized by the opportunity to set direction
  • You are a strong communicator who can translate complex analysis into clear, actionable recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • You are comfortable working across domains (Finance, GTM, Product) and switching context frequently - prioritization and organization come naturally
  • You are excited about AI and how it intersects with data science. You see LLMs and agentic systems as tools that amplify your work, not replace it
  • Experience partnering with engineering teams to productionalize models (MLOps, model monitoring, CI/CD for ML)

Nice to Have

  • Experience in SaaS, B2B, or e-commerce environments
  • Familiarity with dbt, BigQuery, or modern analytics engineering workflows
  • Prior experience building a data science function or being the first/early data scientist at a company

Our Current Stack

  • Data/Infrastructure: GCP/BigQuery, dbt
  • AI/ML: Python, LangChain/LangGraph, LLMs (Anthropic, Gemini, OpenAI)

AI at Gorgias At Gorgias, AI is a natural extension of how we work and build. Our teams use it every day to research, write, analyze, code, and craft better customer experiences. Everyone has access to premium AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Granola & others) and an annual L&D budget to explore new ones.

The real magic happens when we share what we learn. Our #powerup Slack channel is a digital petri dish of new tools and workflows, and each team has AI champions who showcase fresh ideas during weekly company-wide standups, now practically AI demo sessions.
