The Role

Albourne Partners (Canada) Limited is looking for a Private Markets Investment Due Diligence Associate Analyst to join our Real Assets Team in Toronto. The successful candidate will provide support for manager selection, due diligence, and related Private Markets services across Timber, Agriculture, Mining, Natural Resources, and other Real Assets strategies , and assist colleagues in the production of these services.

Responsibilities

Fund Investment Due Diligence:

  • Generate Fund Lists: Collaborate with the Head of Real Assets to maintain and implement manager review and due diligence focus lists for assigned strategies and regions. Lists may include Top Picks, Funds to Watch, and New Funds. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of funds raised in the strategy, requiring an open-door approach to fund managers.
  • Coordination: Work with Real Assets colleagues and others across the firm covering related strategies to prepare research and analysis, participate in calls and meetings, write notes, update HFDB, review materials, share insights, and enhance the quality of PM IDD reports and recommendations.
  • Rate Managers: Generate preliminary ratings for managers within the assigned strategy and clearly articulate the rationale behind those ratings.
  • Produce Manager Reports: Assist in the production of clear, concise investment due diligence reports and recommendations in collaboration with PM IDD Analysts. Conduct due diligence through site visits, analysis of documents and performance reviews, reference checks, and data modeling using internal or self-developed tools. Follow best practices in Private Markets due diligence.
  • Monitoring: Provide ongoing monitoring of funds in client portfolios or on fund lists to ensure ratings remain accurate and up to date.
  • Assist Clients with Accessing Managers: Build relationships between Albourne, clients, and covered managers to help facilitate client access to preferred funds.
  • Forward Calendar: Support the creation and maintenance of an accurate and current Forward Calendar for the assigned strategy.
  • Strategy Forecasts: Contribute to the development of strategic forecasts for assigned Private Markets strategies.
  • White Papers & CIO Notes: Support the production and upkeep of research posted on the extranet that highlights key attributes, trends, and drivers of the strategy.
  • Research Tools & Analytics: Identify additional tools or analytics that improve rating accuracy, enhance fund selection, or better communicate investment opinions.
  • Client Calls and Requests: Communicate Albourne’s house views on strategies or funds via phone or email and support follow-up on client requests in coordination with PM IDD Analysts.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in internal group meetings, including Private Markets and Real Assets calls, to support knowledge sharing.
  • Meet deadlines set by management and clients. If delays occur, proactively communicate the reasons and revise timing expectations.
  • Ensure internal database is maintained with up-to-date information and internal processes are followed.
  • Assist with additional client communication and business development activities, as required.
  • Other ad hoc projects as assigned.

Desired Qualifications

  • University graduate or equivalent, with a preference for knowledge or work experience in private markets (e.g., private equity, venture capital, real assets or real estate)
  • Possession of or progression towards relevant professional qualifications (e.g., CFA, CAIA) is an asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, and Copilot
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience producing written research reports or deal memos as a deliverable
  • Proactive self-starter, proficient in time management and multitasking
  • Professional demeanor with refined interpersonal skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel to the U.S. and internationally, as required
