About the role Hunter Scouts is recruiting on behalf of a confidential end-customer for a hands-on FPGA Engineering Manager to lead the design and delivery of next-generation broadcast and video processing solutions. This is a technical leadership role combining people management, FPGA architecture and RTL design oversight, verification and system integration across FPGA, software and test disciplines. You will define FPGA architectures and design standards, drive tooling and automation improvements, and lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality products on schedule. On-site presence in Ottawa is expected; some hybrid flexibility may be considered.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team (FPGA, software, verification) through full product development cycles
- Define FPGA architectures, methodologies, coding standards and drive adoption across the team
- Oversee RTL design, HDL verification and system integration to meet product and performance goals
- Collaborate with hardware, software and product management to translate requirements into technical plans and roadmaps
- Drive automation, modern FPGA toolchains, scripting (Python/Tcl) and CI practices to improve efficiency and quality
- Establish and enforce development processes: design reviews, verification plans, documentation and release control
- Track project schedules, resources, risks and take corrective action to meet delivery commitments
Requirements
- Located within a 50-mile (80 km) radius of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and authorized to work in Canada (no employer-sponsored visa available)
- 10+ years of experience in FPGA design or high-speed digital design, with demonstrated experience leading engineering teams through full product development cycles
- Hands-on experience with Xilinx Vivado and Intel Quartus; experience with HDL simulation tools such as ModelSim or QuestaSim
- Strong scripting skills in Python and/or Tcl to automate FPGA development workflows and tool flows
- Experience overseeing verification and integration of FPGA designs into complex systems, including timing analysis and system-level validation
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent
Preferred Skills
- Background in broadcast/video processing systems (video standards, codecs, SDI/IP video)
- Experience implementing CI/automation for FPGA flows (regressions, build/test pipelines)
- Proven experience across both Xilinx and Intel device families on multiple production programs
- Experience defining organization-wide FPGA design methodologies and standards
- Experience working with product management to translate requirements into technical roadmaps
