About the role

Village Ice Cream is on an exciting journey to find our next Sous Chef! We are looking for someone who is creative, collaborative, and self-motivated. As Sous Chef, you will lead seasonal flavour development and special projects with support from our Head Chef. In any given week, you will split your time between high-level meetings with the Kitchen Manager team, collaborating with the Bakery Manager to ensure exceptional ingredient procurement, and of course, creating incredible flavours for our seasonal calendar. As Sous Chef with Village Ice Cream, you will:

  • Develop new recipes to create exceptional flavours that align with Village Ice Cream’s brand standards and goals, including ideation, costing, scaling the recipe, procurement, and approval from the Leadership team.
  • Support our Head Chef in providing leadership, direction, and organization to the Kitchen Managers to ensure efficient production company-wide.
  • Develop and effectively document special projects.
  • Collaborate with our Bakery Manager on ingredient procurement that meet pricing, time, and quality expectations.
  • Monitor back of house expenses and identify and implement cost-saving opportunities.
  • Maintain up-to-date ice cream and inclusion recipe costing.
  • Maintain a clean and organized commissary and actively work to ensure minimal waste.
  • Follow company policies as well as food health, safety, and sanitation guidelines with care, and ensure other employees do as well.
  • Provide coverage and support for the Head Chef, Kitchen Managers, and Ice Cream Makers when necessary.

You are a great fit for this role if you:

  • Have a minimum of 3 years of experience in a culinary, pastry, or product development role.
  • Have a minimum of 1 year of experience in a management or leadership position.
  • Have experience and a passion for developing recipes or leading creative culinary projects.
  • Exhibit exceptional ability in turning creative ideas into a fully executed reality.
  • Are familiar with COGS management, recipe costing, and procurement.
  • Are proficient in Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
  • Are a proactive thinker with the ability to plan projects and menus up to 6 months in advance.
  • Have a valid driver’s license and clean drivers abstract.
  • Take pride in exceptional organization and cleanliness.
  • Are an adaptive individual who can think on the fly and embrace change.
  • Lead with positive energy.
  • Take pride in your work.
  • Prioritize the greater good.
