Business Analyst, Client Data Technology - Toronto, ON
The Team Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) is the fast-moving, award- winning technology engine that powers Scotiabank’s Corporate, Investment Banking, and Capital Markets businesses.
The Role GBME is searching for a Business Analyst, Client Data Technology to liaison between business stakeholders and internal engineering and architect teams, ensuring solutions are developed and delivered on time, efficiently and with high quality for various projects within GBME.
The successful candidate will have a results-oriented and curious mindset with strong technical skills. You will work closely with cross functional teams, including engineers, solutions architects, and business teams to develop and implement market leading solutions that are scalable and deliver excellence, and value to our business partners and customers.
Brief Description of Initial Project: The Client Data Technology team is working towards a Single client view solution as part of the overarching Client Lifecycle Management covering GBM, Commercial and IB business lines. Lead will drive the analysis of the existing capabilities and transformation required for the strategic solution. This role is pivotal in delivering the final solution bringing in operational efficiency, regulatory alignment, and scalable infrastructure for future growth.
As part of the role, you’ll:
- Demonstrate an informed knowledge of business functions to resolve problems and capitalize on improvement opportunities
- Ensure business specifications/requirements documentation is accurately prepared and comprehensive to support sizing/development efforts and as input to various project documentation
- Develop and deliver Business Requirements Documents, Design Documents, Use Cases, and Process Models as required
- Participate in the development of detailed project plans, the monitoring of progress against planned objectives, the financial review, and securing consensus and co-operation from users and senior management
- Work closely across GBME technology teams during all stages of the system development life cycle and bridge the gap between business and technology sides of the solution
- Liaising between the business community and the IT organization to provide technical solutions that meet user needs
- Build relationships and communicate effectively with colleagues in Global regions
- Support production issues and handle escalations during Release cycles as needed
Key Skills & Experience Required for Project:
- 5+ years in capital markets technology
- Good understanding of currency markets, trading platforms, and FX instruments (spot, forwards, swaps, options)
- Possess critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills
- Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and vice versa
- Facilitate discussions with vendor, business and technology stakeholders, while fostering cross functional collaboration
- Proven ability to work with business stakeholders, developers, compliance teams, and senior management
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing end-to-end delivery of technology initiatives
- Strong data analysis and SQL skills
Minimum Qualifications:
- A recognized undergraduate degree or diploma in business administration, computer science or related field required
- 5+ years practical work experience in financial services industry
- Minimum 5 years working knowledge of databases, with ability to create and run queries independently
- Experience working across multiple teams and functions to ensure alignment
- Experience working with all phases of SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle)
- Proficient with Unix Tools, shell scripting (Bash, Perl, Python, etc.), SQL queries, PL/SQL, and SQL Loader - or equivalent
- Ability to adapt quickly to new processes and standards, with a strong commitment to providing exceptional customer service
- Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications and deliver working results
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Excellent working experience of Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
Preferred Qualifications
- An understanding of the Bank’s application system and software from a business/technical viewpoint is required to assess the impact of development and/or changes to the overall data processing environment)
- Experience working with any kind of client data for corporate and commercial clients
- Experience managing projects that span change in front, middle or back-office systems and teams
- Experience with UNIX Tools, shell scripting, Python, is an asset
