About the role

NextStar Energy (NSE) is an innovative joint venture company between LG and Stellantis. It will be Canada's first large-scale lithium-ion battery production plant when it begins production at the Twin Oaks site in Windsor, Ontario. The manufacturing facility will have an annual targeted production capacity in excess of 49 gigawatt hours and will create an estimated 2,500 new jobs in Windsor and the surrounding areas.

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrode Inspection Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and improving the inline inspection/vision machines in the electrode production process. This role requires a strong understanding of vision systems, strong software skills and project management abilities to maintain accurate performance on all inline inspection machines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspection Machine PM Management through PM Planning, Technician Work orders, optimization of inspection machine for preventative measures, establishment of inspection machine spare parts, calibration for inspection machine performance and management of Measurement System Analysis.
  • Supervising and schedule Technician work orders to maintain performance of inline inspection equipment.
  • Collaborating with Electrode Quality Team to perform MSA (measurement Systems Analysis), calibration and validation on vision systems.
  • Managing and scheduling for construction and installation of main equipment and vision system.
  • Responsible for inspection equipment improvement by analyzing, quantifying equipment failures and its causes and implementing preventative measures based on findings.
  • Improving inspection machine accuracy and detection power by establishing a system utilizing inspection information management system.
  • Responsible for the expansion of equipment and dissemination/application of new technologies for equipment.
  • Review and plan for inspection model development and model changes.
  • Establishing, revising, and updating PD Manuals and equipment standards.
  • Provide technical assistance with installation and maintenance of company equipment. Perform equipment upgrades as per customer requirements.
  • Maintain documentation for equipment installation, maintenance and troubleshooting procedures for reference purposes.
  • Communicate with vendors to solve complex problems by identifying and evaluating alternatives to provide support.
  • Act as primary contact for equipment performance related questions and concerns.
  • Work with engineers and operators to troubleshoot the machines on the production floor to ensure highest yield and OEE.
  • Improve production processes by creating various SOPs and train technicians to ensure understanding and correct implementation to floor.
  • Maintain communication between department co-workers and manage production flow from one process to the next.
  • Prepare and participate daily, weekly, and monthly meetings with other teams.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Related Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering
  • MS Office tool-based report writing and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with individuals and teams across the company to achieve team goals and targets.
  • Computational Skills, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and statistical knowledge.
  • A team player who can multitask and thrive in a very dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • A quick learner of various business software and systems (DAVINCI, MES, SPC+)
  • Understanding of vision system hardware and PLC logic.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.

Preferred Requirements:

  • 2 or more years of manufacturing industrial or battery industry experience is preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge of mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Equipment operation knowledge, manual knowledge, work manual knowledge, equipment/electricity-related technical knowledge.
  • Knowledge and experience of machine vision and optical cameras and lighting and measurement sensors
