About the role
TPosition Summary GenCore Ltd. is seeking a motivated Project Technician – Utility Design to support the delivery of telecommunications and electrical utility infrastructure projects. Reporting to the Project Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for preparing utility designs, engineering drawings, quantity calculations, and as-built documentation for telecommunications, electrical distribution, and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong AutoCAD skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to develop technical expertise in utility engineering and design. Key Responsibilities · Produce drafting deliverables including design drawings, quantity take-offs, and as-built documentation, for telecommunications, electrical distribution, and related utility infrastructure assignments, leveraging platforms such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, SPIDA Calc, IKE Office, Pull Planner, and AGi32. · Partner with Project Designers and Project Engineers throughout the design lifecycle to safeguard the technical accuracy and completeness of all issued deliverables. · Interpret permit drawings, municipal records, and reference documentation to confirm the full scope and constraints of each assignment prior to commencing work. · Engage with Project Designers, Project Engineers, and Field Inspectors on a routine basis to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical and field-related issues. · Verify field captures through structured quality reviews to confirm that all required attributes have been recorded in accordance with project requirements. · Process field information submitted by Field Inspectors and incorporate the data into design deliverables in a timely manner. · Assume accountability for the quality of assigned deliverables, tracking project hours and executing work within established time and budget parameters. · Contribute to the management of project schedules, work assignments, and submission milestones under the oversight of senior personnel. · Address routine technical issues independently and escalate matters of greater complexity to senior team members in accordance with established protocols. · Undertake additional duties commensurate with the role as required to support team objectives. Qualifications · Post-secondary education in Electrical/Civil Engineering or Architectural program, would be considered an asset. · Minimum one year of AutoCAD or MicroStation drafting experience. · Minimum one year experience with utility projects, specifically telecommunications, hydro and gas, is considered a strong asset. · High proficiency with AutoCAD software and experience customizing AutoCAD, scripts, tools, and Menu’s. · Basic understanding of municipality standards is considered an asset. · Basic understanding of pole line analysis is considered an asset. · Familiarity with the CSA standards is considered an asset. · Proficient with the use of computers and software, including MS Office (Word, Excel). · Good understanding of how to read electrical/civil engineering drawings and site plans. · Excellent safety and attendance record and previously demonstrated strong safety awareness. Compensation · Hourly Rate: $24 – $32 per hour
